Q: Interest rate on our money in the bank or in gics is virtually zero. I always heard that in a disinflationary period, the worst place to be is in stocks. But would people not want to be in the stock market and at least get a good yield. So many dividends are over 4%. This is a contradicton. Can you explain it to me. Thanks.

Q: Dear 5i team,
Thank you for the Special Report. Could you kindly confirm a few things about the graphs in it, please? My broker account doesn’t show graphs like yours, so what is the blue line and what is the brown filled-in background- I was thinking high and low stock prices, but noted the left and right y axis are different so I think I’ve not got that right. And how do you read the dark blue graph at the bottom- what is the stock’s ‘relative strength’ relative to?
Thanks so much!

Q: Hello 5i Gurus,
The central bank authorities at the Bank of England and the ECB have, this past week given authorization to all banks (domiciled in the UK or Europe) that they will be allowed to release ALL of their strategic counter cyclical funds that they normally hold in reserve. From what I remember, this would be several hundreds of billions of pounds or euros. Question is: Does the US and Canada have similar "counter cyclical funds" (not sure if this is the correct terminology)? that they can use to support the economy temporarily?

Q: Dear 5i;
I watch the Asian and Futures market in the evenings as a guide or possible indicator as to what North American markets might do the next morning / day and I'm sure I'm not alone in doing this .
I find it extremely irritating and unfair that I'm unable to take advantage of anticipated increases or decreases in the US and Can markets as a result of the Futures market being significantly up or down as the North American markets are already up or down big time before the markets are even open for trade ( ie the pre-market trading ).
Am i missing something here or are all of us ordinary investors stuck with this unfair system ( in my view anyways ) ?
Thanks
Bill C.

Q: Hi there,
I'm currently in 100% cash. What are typical signs of a rebound and that the turbulence is over and how long does it usually take? In other words, traditionally what signals would one use to know when to buy back into the mark. Also, for simplicity sake, what ETF would you recommend buying to get torque coming of the bottom or that would lead out of the bottom/recession?
Thanks!

Q: On my watchlist are the broad S&P market (SPY) and an ETF that focuses on airlines, hotels, cruise ships, etc. Does one exist that you know of? I know of JETS for airlines, but is there anything that encompasses airlines and more leisure stocks?
Thanks,
Jason
Thanks,
Jason
Q: Any interesting happening in the markets the last little while? The price drop has been swift, but given where the S&P was in December 2018 (2416), there still seems to be some room on the downside. Is this a good level to start buying at? Different issues were affecting the market in each instance, but it still seems early to be a buyer right now.

Q: While I realize that low oil prices are bad some, they are surely good for others. Can you please offer 5 suggestions for companies that stand to benefit from plummeting oil prices, If you can sketch the dynamics of this how this might play out, that would also be much appreciated
Thank-you.
Thank-you.
Q: The only thing that didnt go down with the rest of market was an asset class called Pensions. I believe the assets behind all pensions when south including the deterioration of the credit quality of the bonds held within .Is it possible that pension holders may feel the same pain as other asset holders?
Q: Hello friends,
Given the current market turmoil, I'm watching for good entry prices for companies I'm interested in from all 5i portfolios - including your US stocks recommendations.
However, I'm in a bit of a conundrum - which ones should I snatch first? The ones that went down the most for good or bad reasons or the ones that held-up best?
I'm aware that this depends on my stomach, and perhaps that companies that went down most might recover faster if they have a growth profile, but those that held-up best might continue to do even better during markets recovery.
To give just one example pair: GC or BYD?
Perhaps an article might be written on this theme?
All the best and many thanks that you're here for us!

Q: Dear 5i
Do all the US stock futures trade out of Tokyo ?
How does the trading of stock futures overseas affect the US and CDN markets (Indices ) ? If US stock futures are down then do the US stocks in the US markets start the next day down lower as a result of the Asian markets being down or do US stock values start off the next day where they left off the day before in the US markets ?
Hope this question makes sense . I'm trying to get a feel for applying a stop/loss on a stock so knowing how the futures markets affect opening North American prices is important to have an understanding of this .
Thanks

Q: Regarding dividends payment in US. You are right as every broker has its rules. For webbroker at TD you have to open a US account and transfer securities to the US to be able to keep dividends from being converted. For BMO and Questrade the account holds both US and Cdn securities and the dividends are paid in the currency it is declared and not converted unless you request the conversion.
Q: On the question Mar. 5 by James about Canadian companies and US dividends, I called my broker and discussed my dividends remaining in US currency, he said that I would have to transfer the Canadian stocks to my US side of the account and then the dividends would be paid in US money and then if I wanted to sell the stock I could sell it in US money or they would move it back to the Canadian side. With the Norbert Gambit situation, I thought you could only transfer Canadian stocks that were also listed on the US side. The stock I transferred AQN (Algonquin Power) I didn't think was listed on the US side too. I have other stocks in the same situation but I don't think a lot of them are dual listed. Should I go ahead and transfer the other ones over or I am not getting the right information from the broker? Thanks Dennis
Q: On the question asked by James..."Canadian names paying US dividends", does that only work if a person has a non registered US account or can the same benefit work in a Canadian non registered account?
thanks,
Paul
thanks,
Paul
Q: Hello,
I was watching an interview on BNN with Mr. Wonderful where he disclosed this little company which is using psychedelics for treatment of depression, PTSD, ADHD in adults, drug addiction therapies and a host of other potential avenues. After doing some light digging it also turns out Linton is on the board of this company. They trade on the NEO exchange which I have never heard of, can you give me your opinion of this exchange and this very small company. I realize this is early days. This would be a flier long hold 5 years.
