Q: Morning team,

I've recently taken some profits and have some cash to deploy for long term holds. And I would be interested to know what your top investment "themes" would be for the next 5+ years are? For instance, ideas that come to mind for me are Cloud computing, "green" investment, and cyber security. Are there others that you find more intriguing? And which companies/ETFs would you recommend as investments?

Thank you again for you insights!

Q: Hi,
Both of these companies have recently announced stock splits. AAPL for the umpteenth time, TSLA I think for the first time. While I understand the logic behind a stock split, I am curious as to the usual market reaction. With our current electronic trading, does a split still have weight in attracting new buyers because the price point has decreased? I you were to initiate a new position on either of these companies would you do so in advance of the split, or wait until after? Is there a 'usual' response that occurs - such as just before a split prices rise, or they fall just after a split, etc. Any thoughts on this would be most welcome! If you were to start a new position how would you rank these two companies against adding to a current position in MSFT? Thanks, as always, for your hard work and insight.

Q: With Tesla hitting 4 quarters of profitability along with the other criteria, they are now eligible for consideration to be added into the S&P. I understand the S&P committee meets on a quarterly basis to rebalance the index, and the next meeting is scheduled for the third Friday in September. What is the time frame post the Sept meeting we can expect an announcement to be made that Tesla is to be added.

Q: One of the themes that I am seeing is companies reducing in carbon intensity. It seems to be more prevalent in Europe right now, with companies building or buying wind and solar power generation for hydrogen production and use. How can one get exposure to European companies through North American markets including wind turbine manufacturing companies, as the European Union launches a new push to make hydrogen one of the clean fuels of the future? With Covid it seems that EU will push the green energy theme for bonds as well. What do you see as an implication of this in North America? What NA companies and ETF's would you see in this hydrogen arena?

Q: Hi 5i,

I have another question on TSLA. Do equity investor analysts look at future potential earnings when evaluating a company ? TSLA has over 1 million cars on the road (and more every day). I believe the majority have not purchased Full Self Driving, which is an additional $10,500 option ($cdn). If and when it is released, if a significant number, lets just say 10% of the current owners purchase FDS, the revenue to Tesla is VERY significant. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Q: After watching Tesla from the sidelines (sadly) for too long, I would like to start an investment in the EV "sector". I am thinking about a basket approach and would appreciate your opinion on a few that I know of and any others that you may suggest.
Workhorse, WKHS; Arcimoto, FUV (does not pop up on your site), Nio inc, NIO; Nikola Motors, NKLA; Kandi Technologies, KNDI; and of course, Tesla, TSLA. I realize that some if not all of these may be speculative and require a long time frame but I do believe that there is an EV revolution coming and I would like to be part of it as both an investor and a consumer. Do any of them have serious red flags?
Is there a very specific ETF that might be an easier way to go? Any thoughts on whether Rivian might go public any time soon? Should GM be on the list perhaps?
As always, thanks so much for your valued opinions regarding this and everyone else's enquiries!

Q: Hi 5i, I last asked about Tesla on Feb 6. It was trading about $750 then and has recently bounced off $1030 and closed about $930 today. Since that time, arguably very challenging for the automotive industry, much has happened at Tesla (Chinese factory operation and expansion, Berlin on the way, Wall street opinion reversals and increased targets, record Model 3 orders, reduced car prices, Model Y deliveries commencing) and this week, announcement of the Semi starting production and Cybertruck is in the wings (with rumoured +500,000 pre-orders). (And the SPACE X launch - a cousin enterprise to Tesla).

Has your opinion changed on the company ? I am a long term holder.

Thanks so much for your excellent service.
