Q: Is it too late to get into Ford after its price appreciation? I’m considering switching from Magna to Ford. Do you have a preference. We also hold Granite REIT which does get much if it’s revenue from Magna properties, so wondering if holding Ford instead would improve diversification. Thanks lots!

Q: Hello 5i, I am thinking of buying Granite Real State Investment Trust. Before I do so I would like your opinion on the company's debt compared to other major Canadian REITs? I am somewhat concerned about the following excerpt from the company profile "Granite derives nearly all of its revenue in the form of rental income from its properties. The company's largest tenant is Magna International, an automotive parts and systems manufacturer, which accounts for the majority of Granite's lease income." This is as if most of their income depends on Magna only, is that a concern to you? Thank you

Q: If one was willing to accept the smaller cap size risk and the much lower yield, could you endorse a switch from MG to DOO to stay (technically at least) in the same sector in the hopes of realizing a higher total return in the long run (5-10 years)? When I look at the history, Magna is about where it was 7 or 8 years ago, and DOO is up about 4 fold. I realize the past doesn’t predict the future, but still…..

Q: Can you recommend 5 top value Canadian and 5 USA companies that have solid long-term businesses, with great management, a good P/E and have no debt or very low debt. Would really like to find a solid core of buy and hold names in any sector. It would appear to me that SLF would be one good choice.
Thanks!

Could you please give your take on these holdings .. keepers or let go? With the exception of TECK, I am down with the rest. Although they are good companies, they don't seem to have +ve momentum ..
I appreciate your thoughts ?

Q: I do believe that our future will be elecrified, though it will take more than a decade to make real progress. Copper will be a key raw material but we will also need motors, batteries and control systems. Renewable power producers will also be needed of course, but I am more interested in the device side rather than the power production side.

If you wanted to start a mini-portfolio of companies that are likely to be key to an electrified world, how would you begin and can you suggest a few companies that will likely be key players?

Q: Currently down significantly on these names, especially SHOP

Please confirm whether all are “keep-able” in a long-term (10yrs+) balanced portfolio.

Would you add to any at current valuations, and which one(s)?
Thank you!

Q: Currently we own MG with the purposes of collecting a dividend and getting some growth. With its current performance, we’re wondering if a RY might be a better choice with a similarly growth/dividend profile? If possible, are there any other MG substitutes (regardless of sector) that you like better?
Thank you for the fantastic product.

Q: Hello, folks,
I currently own Magna but, considering recent events/performance and murkier outlook, am exploring possibly making a switch. I am looking at CTC.A, LNF, and QSR. Please indicate order of preference for a 5-year hold and short explanation of rationale.
I'd be open to suggestions of other stocks in the Consumer Cyclical space with >3% dividend if you think there are better options.
Thanks in advance,
Rory

Q: Of the consumer cyclicals held are there any you would sell? Any you would add to? And, do you have other Canadian or US names you would suggest looking into at this time?

5+ years timeframe, high risk, growth-focused in a TFSA.

MG (-30%)
LNF (-22%)

Thank you!

Q: Hi 5i,

Pretty sure I know your answer based on past questions, but I have so many questions to use from being a long time satified member.

Would you swap MG for DOO? Please provide some comparison metrics for the next 3 to 5 years to justify switch.

Again, using same question above, compare a BNS to TD switch.

Thanks again for your valuable insights over the past several years!

Q: Looking to make purchase a couple of stocks for TFSA. Looking at ATD, MG, DOO and CNR. How would you rank the above. Are there other similar stocks that you would prefer instead. Looking for a stable, high quality company with good earnings and cashflow.

Q: Back in February 5i had responded to an MG vs TIH comparison request. I guess I was a bit surprised that you had favoured MG. I'm trying to understand MG's risks in the new EV world. How dependent is MG on the legacy companies for business? If they are quite dependent, are there not a lot of legacy costs (and therefore disruption risks) with these type of companies compared to the Teslas of the auto world who have built from the ground up on EV production? Maybe it's a case of MG having other avenues of growth in EV design and production that I'm not aware of.

Regarding TIH, what is its historic yield range ? Is the upper part of the range about 2.3% ?

Q: If one were to sell Magna but still wanted to stay in the industrial sector would you endorse moving into CPR at this time (allowing for giving up some dividend income)? CPR share price has gone pretty parabolic in the last 5 years or so relative to their long term history, do you think the valuation has gotten ahead of itself?

In spite of its smaller size I was interested in ATS but after the unexplained drop last week on higher volume I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. I don’t mean to editorialize but I can’t count the number of times in recent years when unexplained drops suddenly become clear in the days and weeks that follow. It’s just a personal opinion but I really feel ethics aren’t what they once were, and whether it is an insider, a printer, or someone else “in the know”, it seems information gets leaked and unlike years ago there is now a variety of means (like social media) for that info to spread quickly and widely. End of rant.

Thanks!
