Q: Good-day!
My niece (33 years old, well paid employment) has about $15K to invest, will add at least $10K every year, has no idea what a dividend is (and doesn’t want to know!), and wants my advice. I am suggesting a TFSA with probably a few ETFs, or possibly a basic 3 or 4 stock “beginner’s” portfolio inside the TFSA. For a long term holding I would appreciate it if you could you provide a few suggestions both from ETFs and a few basic stocks, perhaps with the thought of a minimum of $5K in each, maybe incorporating drip. This would all come with the usual wish list of course of some foreign (US at least) exposure, maybe some dividend income, secure payout ratios, reasonable ROE, and capital security. Not too much to ask, of course! ... and if I do ever spark her interest in the investing melee, then my first advice will be a subscription here!
(This question may have already made it to you earlier this afternoon, but I am unsure after some computer hiccupping after I pushed send)

Q: Can I please have your updated opinion on Harmony Gold (HMY)? It's drifted significantly lower recently and the CEO just announced his retirement. Wondering if these two events are related and the overreaction is presenting a buying opportunity?
Q: IMAX: recomm. as a growth stock to-day. It looks hugely over valued, high debt., low ROE, no dividend, down because IPO in China has been postponed.
Q: Good afternoon,
May I have your analysis of HEX as an income play? Is there a better alternative?
Thank you

Q: Which company represents better valuation for a long term hold? What are the pros and cons of these two for income purposes?
Q: Thoughts on this. Is dividend safe
Q: What is your out look for black pearl. Shares are down 50% yet it seems cheap on a price to cash flow basis. The net debt is only 20% of its market value. What is up with this stock.
Q: Hi Guys,
MERUS has filed a shelf registration with U.S. and Canadian regulators to sell up to $250 million of equity securities over the next 25 months. What does this mean and do you see MERUS as a buy, sell, or hold right now.
Thanks

Q: If we see a material reduction in short interest is that an indication that share price may have found a bottom? Just wondering if it is worth paying attention to the short interest in Home Capital.
Q: Good Morning: I would like your opinion on how low you think Bombardier can go before the Federal or Provincial government steps in to prop them up once again?
Thanks - Brian

Q: Full disclosure, I sold all my INP when I learned Saskatchewan was dry and the canola price was rising. All commentators say yeah good buy. I questioned, I maybe wrong as I often am,- but I try to take cover if I am not sure, if there is a light crop INP may have to take it's share of the crop in 2017 as it had to take last year's share this year. The reason the canola price goes up is lack of crop - Input does not get paid till it sells is oil seed.
Q: I'm planning to use your three model portfolios as a guide for my own investments. While your models show percentage holdings for each stock within a portfolio, I haven't noticed a theoretical total dollar amount or relative percentage for each of the three portfolios as a whole.
My question is what percentage of each of the three portfolios would you recommend to someone with a 5-7 year horizon?
Thanks as always for your great website

Q: I wonder if you can comment on the prospects for this company, they have a very innovative product line, which is unique in their field. They are growing and would seem to be a natural fit for JNJ or Medtronic, what are your thoughts?

Q: I realize it's less than 3 weeks from your last comment on the CFO departure, but I am wondering if you've had any more insight?
Q: Do you expect any surprises or shocks with avigilon's upcoming earnings, thanks?
Q: We are retired seniors. We have five different accounts: two RRIFs, two TFSAs, and a joint regular non-registered account. What would be a recommended number of different company shares to hold in any one of these accounts? And, if the same company shares are owned in two or more accounts, would that count as two, or one, company share(s)?
Q: Tio's acquisition of Softgate on Tuesday looks like a marriage made in heaven to me - boosts to revenue and EBITDA are expected but equally important is that they've been collaborating for years.

Q: Good morning. I have taken over the investments of my 91 year old, fairly healthy mother-in-law and have nearly finished rebalancing her portfolio. Dividends are useful but not essential. There is still $13k to invest in her $450k portfolio and I am having trouble in deciding between ATD.B, MDA and ESL for the last position. Assuming her portfolio is now well balanced and understanding her longevity is uncertain, which of these companies (or possibly 2 if the choice is difficult) would you. Thanks for the great service and I value your opinion.
Q: Hi Team,
Could you provide your view on todays news from Magna?
Also, I was considering selling my Shawcor, (SCL) to add to my MG position. Which company do you think will do better over the next 2-3 years going forward?
