Q: Hello Peter and team,
In regards to the deal between THI and BKW:
THI shares sit at 95.49 CAD and BKW shares sit at 34.24 USD as of 30 mins ago.
How come you wouldn't take the 3.0879 shares per each THI share under these circumstances? Would that not mean THI shares are equivalent to $105.73 USD?
Thank you,
Wes

Q: Hi 5i,
Any news out there on ESL? Seems to be quite strong last few days.
At what point does this great company get too expensive?
I am looking to trim a little, but worried that when I do - they get taken out for $50+!
Is cash flow multiple a better metric on this company than P/E?
Thanks,
JS

Q: I have several thousand shares in PNP going back several years and which (in my mind) I had essentially written off and thought some day they might come back which would have been a bonus. But yesterday PNP announced that it is non-compliant on some debt covenants. What do you make of this situation with PNP and should I sell before they declare bankruptcy which seems a distinct possibility?
As always your advice is much appreciated.

Q: Will DHX be affected by the announcement of "Crave" this morning?
Q: Good Morning 5i team, need your help
My portfolio allocation for AYA has increased from 2% to a little over 9%. I have tried to trim this back but every day i see increasing returns and continue finding positive article after positive article regarding forward looking prospects.
I am going to follow your lead and do as you recommend regarding whether I should sit as is or trim back to a smaller portfolio allocation % for this company.
As always, thanks for everything you do. My prescription will be coming due early next year and you can look forward to me eager renewal.

Q: Does AQN trade in off hours? I was updating my mobile bloomberg portfolio just after nine this morning, and saw that AQN was down 3.37%. Since I know it was up yesterday I thought that a bug. But when the market opened my yahoo finance and Globe portfolio both listed AQN down 3.37%.
Q: I bought a small (1.2%) position in NPI at inoppertune time in my RRIF for income and down about 15%. Considering change to CPX or AQN. I would appreciate your comments.

Q: I am looking to add a few U.S. stocks to an RRSP account: GILD, JNJ and GRMN. Is there an added cost to purchasing U.S. stocks in Canadian dollars, and in relation to dividends? Would I need to open a separate U.S. RRSP account to hold U.S. stocks? Thanks!
Q: Hi,Guys, hope all is well in your world.
I'm an investor in Greenbrier and Trinity, and I understand the relative relationship of these manufacturers to the recent decline in oil prices, however, their price declines have been quite dramatic. Given the fact that the manufacture of the newer oil rail cars will be government mandated,is this a panic reaction or possibly that there may be a delay in timing the manufacturing process?
Thanks for your great work, Slainte and a Merry Christmas

Q: Hello Peter,
Shawcor has been hit quite hard lately. It is getting close to the value it was over 10 months ago. Other than the oil issue, are there other reasons, why Shawcor is down so much. Also, if you had a choice between DesCarte Sytems and Absolute Software, which one would you choose? I am looking for growth. Thanks very much.

Q: This question could apply to all dividend paying oil company's, SGY Div on the TSX now indicates 13%+ due to the lower stock price, how quickly do company's cut the div to bring payouts back under 100% of cash flow and get the div back to a reasonable value of say 8% , at today's price of SGY it looks very attractive to add to my position for the div. and potential oversold bounce in price. Most energy stocks seem to be oversold and trading at $40 oil values seen in 2008. Your thoughts please.
Q: Hi Team,
I am looking to buy shares of the Magnum Hunter preferreds. There are 3 series- C,D,E. I am relatively new to buying pref shares- is there a way to quickly assess the difference between series. Is there one you could recommend of the three? I plan to hold it for 3 years. Thank you

Q: Could you please provide an update here. Insiders are buying. Would you buy RZZ or HER for a speculative very high risk mining play? Thank you.
Q: Hello team,
I have way too many losers and I want to bring down the total number of stocks (56) held in various registered portfolios. Knowing that I will not have any tax benefits by selling them, I would like to start with the following list:
Stock down
ESP -19.85%
LGO -30.27%
MX -15.35%
TWD -33.49%
WIN -28.87%
Total -20.55%
And here are my questions:
1- Would be wise to sell the above companies at a loss and use the proceeds to buy cxr?
2- Would you know anything about short term catalysts for cxr? like rumors that a major acquisition is imminent?
3- When would it be the best time to sell these stocks? Should I wait until the tax loss selling is over? ie. sell in January 2015 for a better return? or would that be too late to catch cxr?
4- I do hold cxr but it is not a full position? should I add to it or would you suggest something else (in any sector) with a better upside potential?
5- Would any of the above stocks is worth keeping? I know you might say MX but I have held it for too long and nothing really has happened and now it is gone down with the rest of my oil stocks.
I sent a similar question about a week ago but did not hear anything back....hope it works this time.
All the best to all of you at 5i for helping us participate in the markets with some confidence.

Q: Peter, this funeral company just reported and numbers look good. EPS dropped however due to dilution. Personally, I like monthly dividend payers and consider the industry recession proof. Do you like this firm and should I invest or would you consider this to investment to be....dead money?
