Q: I think the US tax cut has the potential to be inflationary. Investors will have more money in their pockets as the US indices go up and at the same time US government debt will go up since tax income declines but spending does not. The government will be borrowing more to fund their operations. Inflation will help the government as they can use depreciated dollars to pay off their debt. I don’t really buy the argument that increasing economic activity/wealth will somehow flow into back into government coffers replacing the revenues lost to the tax cuts. That being said are gold mining companies a good hedge against inflation? Inflation seems to lead to higher interest rates which is bad for gold. We own some AEM but our weighting is a bit light. Any recommendations?
Thanks
Jim

Q: what is your short and long outlook for gold and the canadian dollar?
i presently have some u.s. cash and was considering an investment in gold (specifically in Kinross U.S.) both for a positive return and portfolio insurance.
I believe that when gold goes up the u.s. dollar usually goes down...
am i correct in that assumption?
appreciate your comments on the above strategy...

p.s. - if you have an alternative strategy it would be appreciated!

Q: I currently owned TV, CS and MX for Material stocks. I would like to add one more in a LIRA account. I only have enough cash for one stock. Should I add Stella Jones or Agnico Eagle Mines. The only accounts I have is a RRSP and LIRA but have 20 years yet to retirement.
Thanks

Q: I'm thinking about adding a gold producer, currently I have no exposure to the sector at all. Do you have any names that you're comfortable with?

Q: Dear Sirs,
I am looking for 5 companies(Canadian and US ) that you feel would weather a good sized market correction well. I understand that the US is not a primary focus but would appreciate any names you feel comfortable suggesting as part of a grouping of 5 to 10 names. As an aside , would you view a holding of Berkshire Hathaway as meeting the above criteria.

With thanks
