Q: I have trimmed some of my oil % gas stocks today back to my sector weight and would like to rotate the proceeds to other stocks. I already have the Balance Portfolio of stocks including MG at full position and was thinking of buying some LNR to complement MG or do you think there are other stocks in the Balanced Portfolio that you would consider more compelling at this time? Could you name your preference? Thanks.
Q: I am looking to increase my allocation to the Materials and Real Estate sectors. My current exposure is only through various index ETFs. Can you provide 3 companies for each sector that trade on the TSX to have a balanced exposure?
Q: I have recently came across $30k unexpectedly from a former employer and was pleasantly surprised. It is currently in an mutual and it would not through my weightings out of balance. I have a well diversified and weighted portfolio with your quality names such as TD, BNS, VET, ENB, TOI, BAM, LSPD, AEM, ATZ, TRUL etc... If I was to move it from the fund to an equity only to set and forget(again) for 15 years what would you chose. At least your top 3. thx.
I'm interested in resource stocks that have long term demand - five years or more. Unlike oil/gas stocks that I'm told are too cyclical for long term holds. What resource or resources - copper, steel, uranium, aluminum, fertilizer, etc. - do you feel is reasonably safe and can you suggest some ways to play it in both Canada and the US?
Q: The phrase “Don’t trust anyone over 30” was coined in the 60’s, but as I head into CPP eligibility age I’m kind of leaning the other way, and so hope Peter can answer this one.
I remember the energy crisis of the 70’s, stagflation, price and wage controls and bought a home after the housing bubble burst in the 80’s and watched many of my new neighbours wait 10 years or more to get back to what they had paid. I loved rolling over 90 day GIC’s (remember Trust Companies?) at double digit interest rates but wasn’t invested in equities.
Specifically on the question of stagflation, if we end up in that horrible scenario again is there such thing as a good stock to hold? If so, can you provide 5 to 10 that you would want in your portfolio?
Thanks again for your steady hand on the wheel lately.
Q: August 2020 Gold hit $2034 / ounce. Agnico Eagle traded at $110.
Today Gold hits $2014 and Agnico Eagle is trading around $75.
Fundamentally, is the company stronger or weaker when comparing these two prices in time. Or is the disconnect in price more just market sentiment about gold vs crypto etc? I loved Kirkland Lake so the merger should be viewed as a positive.
Q: Hi folks..opinion on Q4 & 2021 Results for Agnico Eagle??...also lots of news with change in Ceo, Dividend increase, & share buyback....with completion of Kirkland Lake acquisition...is company poised to breakout in 2022??...would Aem be in your top five gold comps??...merci beaucoup, jb Piedmont QC
Q: I have held Kinross for a few years. Starting to fret about their Russian exposure, Is the risk already priced in?
Or would you sell in the next few days and replace it with Agnico ?
Thanks Gord
Q: Hi,
I have $20,000 to top up my TFSA and wonder what would be best considering my above holdings. Should I add to any of the above or can you suggest any other stock or ETF that would be most suitable for growth and preservation. Your advice is most appreciated.
Q: AEM and KL have lagged the sector, as represented by XGD, since the announcement in September of the merger. I suspect this is due primarily to investors that hold both lightening up now that they are the same company - I am in that boat myself. How long do you expect AEM/KL to lag, when will it recover relative to the sector, or should I sell and diversify to another name now. What would you regard as an equivalent investment (well run, safe jurisdictions) or should I just move to XGD? I currently hold FNV as well as AEM/KL.
Q: Just like Hal I called my broker and was informed that they hadn't received the bulletin yet on the merger. He advised that I call back to tender my KL shares to the offer the week the deal is closing, and BEFORE the closing date. Could you let me know the date the deal is scheduled to close please?
Q: You advised Robert on Jan 26 to contact his broker to advise he was tendering his KL shares to the offer. When I contacted TD Waterhouse They said they were not aware of anything that needed to be done . Am I ok to just sit on it?
Q: Please explain this merger and provide some details. If I were to buy KL today how many shares of AEM would I get when the merger is complete? What happens if I buy AEM?
Q: I am light on materials. Please provide a recommendation for best 3 'materials' stocks in US and Canada at this time. What is a good materials ETF for reference. Thank you.
