Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I'm new to the service and am interested in (mostly) following the balanced equity portfolio. I'm not interested in investing in oil stocks and am wondering what would be a good way to invest that portion of the portfolio outside of the energy sector. I'm not sure if i should just spread it out evenly between the sectors or if there are other companies or an etf that you would recommend to replace the 3 energy stocks. My time horizon is 25 years and I'm fine with some volatility.

Thanks!

Q: What are your thoughts on MPC? I am trying to find a small cap real estate, non reit company that is growing their real estate rental units with reasonable dept. levels. I would prefer investment back into the company over a large dividend. Do you have any other names I can look into?
Thanks!

Q: I am considering realizing gains on a 3% position in FSV and moving the proceeds into TCN. My thoughts here are to maintain exposure to US real estate with a lower valuation higher yield while still maintaining a growth tilt. Your comments on this move would be appreciated.

Q: I currently hold TCN and REI in my TFSA. I am thinking of selling them and replacing with IIP.UN and CAR.UN. I am looking for income with some growth. Do you recommend this or would you leave things as is or possibly consolidate to just one? If so, which? Weighting is high - 17% for REI and 10% for TCN.
Many thanks for your great service!

Q: I will be retiring at the end of the year.
My theory is that inflation is about to rise at a quicker rate than it has recently.
The listed securities are in my portfolio and are hurt by rising interest rates.
Which ones would you suggest that I lighten up on.
Which ones would be a hold.

Q: I have held these two companies for 2 1/2 years and excluding dividends my gains are 7.1% and 4.6%; which are the lowest performing stocks in my balanced portfolio. Do you see any thing happening in the next few years in these companies to improve the share price; or should I expect more of the same? Would you consider these companies to be more suited to an income portfolio vs. a balanced portfolio?
