Q: Laurentien Bank has tumbled significantly following its most recent earnings report, nearly down to the Mar 23 low. Do you think its risk/reward ratio Now makes it suitable for a “balanced” portfolio? Thanks!

Q: Hi 5i
Earnings fast approaching for banks. If banks increase loan loss provisions do u see this as negative for banks and how do you see impact on BMO and LB share price over short/long term if this occurs.
Thx

Q: I did a screen on "undervalued" companies with growing dividends. My aim is income and dividend growth. Possibly a DRIP if available. Which 2 companies would you choose and why?
Q: Hi 5i,
I have owned laurentian bank for 2 years and currently down 20% on initial purchase of a full position. It’s is held in tax free account and no additional funds to average down. Would it make sense to sell this stock and direct proceeds to other financials even though it pays a nice dividend. If so what would u recommend?
In your opinion Does it have any chance to recover or has this just become a lost opportunity and better to move on?
Thx

Q: I am currently overweight the financial sector. I am concerned about the trend to negative interest and the risk of a recession. The odds of market declines are increasing in my opinion.
Protection of capital is more important than income.
We are not supposed to time the market.
Should I put this group in cash ?
The group will be hurt by negative interest rates or am I wrong on this.

Q: I am considering purchase of one of the following 3, CTC, BNS, LB.
If one were to analyze the decision to purchase one of the 3 according to dividends only.
The question is spending 100 000 dollars to purchase any given one of the 3 today, along with the following assumptions, hold x 10 years, no dividend cuts and ongoing ANNUAL dividend growth at present rate (based on present dividend and last years' dividend growth)
CTC present dividend 1.038 dividend growth last year 13 %
BNS present dividend 0.87 and dividend growth last year 5.9%
LB present dividend 0.65 and dividend growth last year 4.2%
At the end of 10 years, WHAT WOULD MY DIVIDEND FOR EACH be in dollars ?
(I can't seem to get the math right and can't find a website calculator to help me.)
Your opinion about the PROS AND CONS of my approach to dividend investing would also be welcome.

Q: I bought LB primarily for its attractive dividend, understanding that capital gains were unlikely. However, it continues to miss earnings estimates, is under attack by short sellers, and has major labour relations problems. Is the dividend relatively secure? Or time to cut and run?
Q: What is the last reported short interest in LB?
The volume today is high for this stock.

Q: Is there any news today on LB. The stock is up and on BIG volume?
Q: Q: As part of the financial sector of an income portfolio of a retiree would prefer POW or LB for "reliable" income with some (inflation) growth? Thanks.
Asked by David on September 10, 2018
5I RESEARCH ANSWER:
We would far prefer POW here.
Regarding the above question, I would to understand the business fundamentals for why you answered as strongly about LB vs POW.
The purpose of the question is improving my investor education / smarts.
To the naive / superficial investor; they look like stable financial sector businesses with strong track records at paying their dividends.
thanks for trying to educate me;)

Q: I am looking at the PB ratio for Laurentian Bank (0.74) and I find it hard not to invest in it, except if it is really in trouble. What is the historical PB value for this company? Why is it so different than all other canadian banks? If they just increased their dividend, it must be a sign of confidence? Thanks.
Q: LB just got whacked over its results but increased its dividend. What, specifically, do are the risks to this bank? Will it go bankrupt, be taken over or recover from a bad spell? Having just increased its dividend it seems unlikely it will cut it in the foreseable future. Why would it not be a "boring" income stock?
Thanks for your insight.
Thanks for your insight.
Q: The share price of LB has pulled back considerably in the past months from a high of 58...is this a buying opportunity or is the dividend suspect
Q: Interested in your thoughts on Laurentian Bank. The stock price has been in a steady decline for the past year despite a dividend much higher than the Big 5 banks.
Is that dividend safe and how would you rate an investment in Laurentian compared to one of the big banks. Also do you see any prospects for an increase in the stock price.
Thanks as always!
