Q: My 20 year old contributed $21k to his TFSA in July, purchasing roughly equal amounts of KXS, PHO, SIS, TOY and PUR. He just sold his PUR shares and now has about 26% of his now $27.6k portfolio in cash. KXS represents about 14% of his portfolio (down approx. 8% from July), PHO 20%/+33%; SIS 17%/+14% and TOY 23%/+43%. Are there one or two names you could suggest to add to his portfolio? Or would he better off maybe topping up a couple of his current holdings (KXS? SIS?). This is for a long term hold. Love your service. Thanks.

Q: I'm thinking of selling my position in Stella Jones. Its had a great recovery from $37, I'm up a decent amount, I think its showing some resistance around $50. I still think its a great company with a bright future, but am thinking of switching out of it for another stock that has much higher growth prospects or at the very least pays a much more reasonable dividend. It makes up the smallest portion of my portfolio (my other holdings are FTS, ZWE, BEP-UN, GSY, and MJN (Cronos)). I'm 39 years old, make above average income, and I definitely have a high risk threshold.

What are your thoughts on switching out of SJ right now for another company with faster/greater growth prospects? A dividend paying stock is nice, but definitely not necessary as all of my holdings pay dividends except for Cronos. I've been watching BTL since the spring when it was below $3, but that ship may have sailed as of this week.

If you're ok with selling SJ, can you please suggest some names that you think would make a good addition to my current holdings

Thanks - have a great weekend!

Q: In a cash account, I have 18% loss on this. I don't need this money for now. For growth or growth with torque where would you go. Or I should keep it.
Thanks.

Q: Hello Peter
As a recent new member, I am both impressed and a little overwhelmed with all the information. I started making a lists of potential companies to invest with, but decided to cut to the chase and just ask you....I am looking for your recommendation for both income and growth companies.... perhaps 4 or 5 of each. I am fully invested in TD, which has done well for me this last year, as well as a couple energy stocks.... Spartan and Ring. I am retired but have a steady income flow with pensions and dividends from an ongoing business. Thank you for offering such a great service and look forward to a bright and lucrative future. Brian

Q: I am planning to get out of a full position in ZCL. I have partial positions in the other 4 above, thinking of topping up on 2 or 3 of them. Does this make sense and what would be your preference?? Thanks Jim

Q: Hi
I have a 7% position in CSU. Given its size now and past run up, would you suggest switching to smaller cap companies like Open Text or Kinaxis or continue to hang on?
I feel like there would be more growth opportunity in these two smaller companies.
Or would you have any other suggestions other than these three in the same space.
Thanks
Jeff

Q: Hello 5i

In reviewing some of my positions from a 5 year chart perspective, it is clear I have come to the 5i Party later in the game than others. I am interested in your thoughts about buying some of the 5i wonder stocks that have been money makers, at this point in the market.
The example I choose is the super run KXS has had but now, even before the recent customer issue, the stock price took a break, broke the uptrend and is now potentially faltering.

How does an investor gauge whether the party is over and protect against being the Holder of growth names for the down side of the stock run?
I have had this experience a few times in the recent years and it really eats into a Portfolio value.
There is no doubt this question highlights a low propensity for volatility and the need to keep portfolio weights in check, but what about stock prices today and buying growth stocks at level never seen before?

Thanks for the highly valued comments
Dave

Q: Just a follow-up to John's question on KXS earlier today regarding the decrease in Professional Services Revenue. I'm under the impression this is a strategic initiative by the company and should in no way be construed as a negative.
Below is the press release from their 2nd quarter earnings release explaining the initiative.
"Second, our strategic partners are increasing their role in deploying new customer implementations, and gaining the related Professional Services revenue as a result. This positive trend has occurred earlier than we anticipated - which in turn has reduced our outlook for professional services revenue growth for 2017. While this has a short-term revenue impact – we are excited by the acceleration of partner contributions to our business. This also creates a stronger mix of subscription revenues in our business model."
