Q: As I write this, Friday mid afternoon, all of the markets are sharply higher. Gains seem to be pretty much across the board. I like to look at outliers that are bucking the trend. There are a few stocks that you have been optimistic about that are actually down today. Wondering if any of these are not as favoured by the market, given their performance today. Perhaps issues with recent results. Understanding that you can't read too much into one day's trading, but several of these have dropped quite a bit lately, and I'm wondering what your current feelings would be on buying these today for a long term hold in a diversified portfolio. Would you give each a rating from 1 to 10 as to how strongly you would want each of these in a portfolio? BYD, CSU, CTS, DOO, DND, ENGH, LNF, PBH, REAL, STC.

Q: Good morning 5i,

Out of Topicus, goeasy or BRP inc, if you had to pick one... which stock would you “top up” hoping for the best one year gain?

Roku... your thoughts as it is down from 480 to 300. It had some huge gains and even at 300 it’s a big winner but it’s a big drop and I feel it’s overall trajectory as a company has only gotten stronger with recent acquisitions plus the overall move to streaming for consumers and companies alike, plus advertising potential growth etc. Thoughts on topping it up for 5 year growth I don’t see many better opportunities especially for potential for a quick turnaround within 1 year. (earnings tomorrow should be interesting in this market).

Q: Hello 5i team,

According to portfolio analytics, I am underweight in Consumer Staples and Consumer Discretionary as well as US exposure. I am a growth investor with a long-term horizon. This is for a TFSA.

In Consumer Staples I hold ATD.B and PBH and was thinking of adding COST.US.

In Consumer Discretionary I have ATZ, BOYD, DOO, LULU.US and was thinking of adding MG and possibly LNF.

Could you suggest some Canadian and US names for both Staples and Discretionary that would compliment my existing holdings?

Thanks for your advice.

Q: Hi,
I hold the above companies in my TFSA and would like to make the portfolio more concentrated for better upside potential. If you were forced to cut three positions and add the proceeds to any of the existing holdings, which one’s would you choose? Long term growth is the only objective.
Thanks

Q: MELI seems to have lost its mojo and I'm looking a stock to complement my tech strong portfolio.

Do you think finances are a good recovery play? Do you like BAC as a finance play?

What sectors companies do you like?

2020 was good to me as i was all in tech.
Time to broaden my selection.
Thanks for all your support.

Q: For a stock price to double in 5 years requires an average gain of about 15% compounded, annually. Would you please rank these 12 stocks in order for the likelihood, in your opinion, they will double in price in the next 5 years. Roughly how many of these 12 would you expect to achieve that target? Assuming no major long term market melt down which would preclude good stock performance over this period. CTS, DCBO, DND, DOO, ECN, GOOS, GSY, KXS, MG, NVEI, PHO, TIXT.

Q: I currently have Aritzia, BRP, Magna, and Boyd Group in my consumer cyclicals. Would you replace any of them with Amazon, or do you think my current picks are better? Thanks

Q: Good day! I will be receiving a large income tax refund in the coming days and will be adding in to my wife's TFSA which already includes positions in ATZ, NVEI, KL, GSY and TRUL. Time horizon of 20+ years affords a healthy appetite for risk. Her others accounts are well-balanced and moderate risk. I'm looking to add 2-3 positions in the above stocks. Please rank in order of preference for a long term hold. I am also open to any other suggestions. Thank you! (Note: I own WELL, XBC, LSPD, GOOS in my own accounts)

Q: I know you have mentioned that you think BRP (DOO) is a good growth stock that you like. In looking at the results they just released today, I see an normalized earnings number for the quarter of $1.82, a 62.5% increase over last year. The guidance for 2021 shows an estimated normalized earnings of $7.62 (mid point of the range), which would be a 41% increase over the 2020 number. At roughly $102, the stock is trading at a p/e of only about 13.4 times this year's estimated earnings. That looks very cheap to me for a company with that high an earnings growth rate. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the quarter, and if you agree that the stock looks very cheap comparing the p/e to the growth rate. Trading at a similar p/e to GSY, with a comparable growth rate.

Q: What do the short positions look like on these stocks? Do you see any stocks with possible "unfair" levels of shorting?

Thanks as always.

Q: Similar question to the one I asked yesterday. This is regarding some small/medium sized consumer and consumer-related type Canadian stocks. How would you feel about holding each of these stocks in your portfolio, on a 1-10 scale, with a 10 being you definitely want the stock in your portfolio, a 1 being a stock you want no part of, and a 5 being a stock you are basically indifferent about. As part of broadly diversified portfolio, looking for total return over the next 5+ years, comfortable with risk. ACQ, AW.UN, DOO, ECN, GOOS, HTL, LNF, MTY, SIS, SVI, ZZZ.
