Q: I received WGX shares in exchange for my KRR shares, when KRR got taken over. The WGX shares have not done very well, but I have been hanging on to them for now, thinking that this poor performance may just be due to the reshuffling of shareholders that often takes place whenever a company is bought, but I'm starting to have doubts.

It is hard to do research on WGX because there doesn't seem to be much information out there, other than the WGX website.

Do you have a feel for how substantial this company is, i.e. how good is the management team, how good are its resources and its plant and facilities, how sound are its finances, etc.?

Do you think it would be wiser to hold on to WGX for now, or to sell, and wait to see how everything works out?

Q: Currentlly my portfolio in gold consists of 3 holdings. They are :

AEM - YTD + 20%, 1 YR + 90%

NUGT - YTD + 34% 1YR + 67%

WGX - YTD - 8% N/A

As you can see the weed in the portfolio is wgx.

Question to you is when I prune WGX out of the portfolio should I just put that money into the other 2 holdings or should I add a third that is an elite performer.

What would be the best from a portfolio management perspective and if you decided to add a third what would it be?

Sheldon

PS Don't worry about NUGT I know the ins and out and have made lots of money on these leveraged ETF's like NUGT, QLD, NAIL, etc

Thanks

Q: Hi Peter…would you be buying safe jurisdiction gold miners now? The price of the metal, to my layman’s eye, is acting a little more bipolar now. Last Thursday or Friday all my stocks except for TD, AEM, WGX and GOT were down suggesting a level of panic. Today the golds are down suggesting fear of inflation ticking up triggering higher interest rates. Thinking of selling my WGX to buy AGI because it seems a better miner. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated.

Q: At the time of the transaction announcement, I had assumed the original ACB from Karora would follow, and the transaction would not be a taxable event. My concern was how would the $0.608/share be treated. I enquired, and received this passed along from their tax dept, "This was a return of capital spin-off followed by a mixed consideration third-party acquisition. It was effectively a fair market value disposition because the consideration was a mix of cash and shares.  To be tax deferred in Canada it has to be shares only."
In other words, the entire transaction would be taxable this year. (The ACB on the WGX shares reflects that.)

Is this your understanding?  If so, any idea why they would structure the deal this way?  Doing so would seem decidedly non shareholder friendly.
Thank you for your comments. Tim

Q: Hi there, thanks for your answer regarding WGX. Follow up;

Are the shares currently trading at a fair price, cheap, etc? Can you provide ratios to support your views?

Your thoughts on not hedging at this point?

Your thoughts on current management/board?

Could WGX be a takeover target itself here?

Any two/three company ideas as to who would benefit taking them over?

Is the momentum for gold strong enough to break through $3K? Or could it fall sharply next week based on the US election results, your thoughts would be appreciated?

Thanks!

Q: Thanking you for your advice on Karora Resources - a tidy profit , and now I own shares in Westgold after the takeover . When will you update your data on this company ? Nothing of real value on your website at present .
From company press releases the company has a market cap of some 2 billion or thereabouts , and expects to produce 400,000 + ounces of gold in 2025 . Expects significant financial savings from the takeover of Karora . Appears to be a real gem of a company . Do any analysts follow it ?
