Q: Hi 5i.

Which Canadian companies would meet the criteria to be considered dividend aristocrats, if they were listed in the US? I know one of the criteria is that the company must be a member of the S&P 500 Index, so obviously an equivalent index membership will have to be used; perhaps the S&P/TSX? Or, would you apply a minimum market cap threshold? It would be interesting to know what Canadian companies would meet the test. Thanks.

Q: telecoms have had a rough year and have not reacted positively to the lowering of interest rates with the heavy debt levels they have I would have expected a positive reaction by now. That being said if you had to choose between Rogers, Telus or BCE what one would you choose and why ?

Q: Hi 5i Team.

I have some names in my TFSA account such as ATD, ATX and ENGH (and maybe some others) that are laggers and would like to move out of them and into something with potentially higher returns.
I also own the other names mentioned above.
What are your thoughts and could you recommend 3 to 5 Canadian and/or US names with the reasons and entry points.
also own NVDA that has grown to a huge percentage of the account.
I know that I should sell some but it has been such a great performer.

Thank you
Joe

Q: hi, I am down on all these names. I am considering adding to (some of?) them. I am looking for some growth in share price ( to match or beat inflation ) and a consistent growing dividend ( matching or beating inflation ). I also don't want to end up with another AQN or BCE scenario. could you kindly give us your advice on these names and include your thoughts on whether they are a buy (add to ), sell, or hold please.
cheers, Chris

Q: My wife and I are mainly dividend investors. We tend to hold our stocks for many years. Due to the significant increase in the value of our stocks this year, we are considering reducing the percentage of some stocks in our portfolio by about 10%.

Could you please give your opinion as to which of the following stocks you would reduce. Would you reduce one or two selected stocks, or perhaps reduce across the board? All of the reductions would be in registered accounts. You can assume the stocks are all about the same percentage of our portfolio.

The stocks are:
BAM
BEP.UN
BIP.UN
BCE
EMA
FTS
NA
RY
SLF
TD

Q: What is the relationship between BN and BAM? I read that BAM just sold several different major assets at attractive prices, bur did not hear anything about whether BN would benefit from these sales. Does BN own a piece of BAM, or vice versa? Which is a better buy if i already own BIPC and BEPC?

Q: Hello Peter,
With Brookfield moving its HQ to US, does this mean we will pay with withholding tax in our TFSA account for any dividends declared? Also, should one wait before adding to BN? Given Topicus's results, would it make sense to increase one's weight to from 2 percent to 3 percent .. Lastly, if one wants to stay conservative, would it make sense to sell TOI, and LMN and just focus on CSU? Much appreciate it

Q: Two questions (please take as many credits as needed):

Question 1:
BN has a 73% ownership interest in Brookfield Asset Management. BAM has a market cap of about $29B. How could one calculate the value of this 73% ownership of BAM based on market cap? I wasn't sure if the 73% was a figure of the total shares outstanding (and therefore value may be calculated as 0.73 x $29B) or whether the 73% interest was outside of the publicly listed shares (and therefore value would be calculated as much higher).

Question 2:
Based on the corporate restructuring announced, it says that "If approved, BAM will own 100 per cent of the asset management business, with Brookfield Corp.’s current 73 per cent interest held directly by owning approximately the same percentage of the publicly traded shares of BAM." Can you clarify what is changing here?

Q: In your response today regarding BN, you said they were looking at moving their hq to the US. I think that was a typo, since it seems only BAM is looking to move their hq and not the parent company BN, correct? Also I see some more recent info came out today, see here. Can you explain to us BAM shareholders what this means for us? Its a bit complex, and i'm not sure if us shareholders get hosed on this move. Thx

Q: A couple years back there was some type of change in US tax law that made many LPs subject to IRS withholding of 15% of sale proceeds (non-recoverable), regardless of where the owner lived in the world. The various Brookfield entities said they were not affected, but it has always made me a little cautious. Now BAM is looking at relocating to NY. I realize they are a corp, not an LP, but is there any potential they could get caught up in the withholding issue? I hold BIPC and BN. Any reason for concern here?
Thank-you

Q: Divid Milstead in the Globe writes that BAM is considering moving it's HQ to New York. Could you comment on likely implications for Canadian holders? If this is a go; what kind of advance notice might be customary?
Thank You.
