Q: BAM, what is going on? down again big today? I bought down at 42$ and am now down over 10% in a few days? what have you missed? is there fraud at work somewhere? also, do you know why BNN website has a value for BAM on thurs. dec 1, 2022 of 37.32- 44.5$, which seems to include after hours trades ( in Canada, I have never seen after hours trades in Canada? do they exist, where does an investor see these?) , when the new equity did not start trading until 12/12/2022? was Brookfield trying to dump BAM? this makes no sense, and is not explained by broader market actions. do you have any guess as to whether this is a hold, sell, or buy now?

Q: well, call me 'a bit more nervous than usual...."

all brookfield companies are falling without 'real' reason

seems like more than just market noise

could it be, and fully understanding mr flatt is seen as the 'great compounder', that finally their obtuse/aggressive accounting on all entities is finally catching up with them?

you know, the tide is going out and we'll see who is swimming naked

thx

Q: From Disnat website:

Changes to the U.S. Taxation of Publicly traded partnerships (PTP)
starting January 1st, 2023 (Internal Revenue Code section 1446).
New US regulations taking effect on January 1, 2023, will result in new withholding taxes for sales of publicly traded partnerships by non-US account holders.
Once these rules take effect in 2023, when a non-US national sells an interest in a publicly traded partnership, 10% of the gross proceeds of the sale will be withheld. The withholding taxes will be remitted to the US Treasury, and the non-US national will be responsible for filing a US income tax return and claiming any potential refund of the amount withheld.

Will BAM be affected by this knew legislation?
Thank you.

Q: Good morning. When Brookfield announced they would create Brookfield Corp, I doubled my BAM.A holdings to get a larger base in the new entity. Looking at the market activity after the fact would you sell the added BAM.A and buy the new entity for an even larger position or allocate the funds elsewhere?
Sorry just thought of this I've modeled a dividend portfolio for my son to enhance his retirement. I've included XBB for a bond position. My question am I being to cautious? Would you ignore them entirely or do a 70/ 30 conventional split? Any other bond funds you would consider? Merry Christmas

Q: Dear 5i,
I currently hold BIPC and BEPC in my NonReg, TFSA and Pension accounts.
In your opinion, which new split entiity; BN or BAM offers the least overlap with my current two holdings? Which entity gets the fees from BIPC and BEPC? These new entities are very confusing and it would be great if you published a special article about them and how we might use them.
thanks

Q: Will the 10% US withholding tax on dispositions and distributions of PTPs, levied against non-US persons effective January 1, 2023 apply to the old BAM.A or the new BN (or both)? And how is BAMR impacted?

Brookfield website says "section 1446(f) will not apply) to BAM.A but gives no detail, unlike their website on BIP (which details that section 1446(f) does not apply due to being Bermuda based and that the 10% exception rule applies)

I have a significant holding in BAM.A and want to know if I should take action prior to Jan 1, 2023

Q: Apologize for another Brookfield question, but like many others on here I'm confused with what happened with BAM.A
If this was a reverse split of 1-4, shouldn't the price of the stock have gone up (before trading)?

I had 400 BAM.A and now have 100 BAM for under $40 and BN isn't showing up in my account yet. The Investorline trader says he sees 100 BN in my account, so it should show up soon.
So 400 shares turns into 200 shares and unless BN is a lot more than BAM, this split is not looking right.

I know I'm probably missing something, but so far I don't get it.

thanks for any help,

Paul
