Q: In my well diversified portfolio, these are losers. I do not need the cash. Which in your view are not worth holding? I am content to hold on for any possible turnaround.
Q: What are HCG plans moving forward regarding getting the banking license? Will they take deposits, issue credit cards, wealth management etc? Will they expand revenue streams by opening branches?
Q: Report on Business in the Globe and Mail had an article entitled "How lenders skirt Canada' mortgage rules" in today's paper (January 12, 2017). The first two sentences of the artilce state: Canada’s subprime mortgage providers are increasingly teaming up with unregulated rivals to sidestep rules designed to clamp down on risky lending.
The results of these partnerships are so-called "bundled" loans, which pair a primary mortgage with a second loan from unregulated groups called mortgage investment corporations (MICs).
It later states that HCG uses this bundling technique.
Do you think this article is being fair to HCG? Could HCG be at risk if it is following this practice? Will the shorts find this another reason to put HCG in a negative light?
Q: I currently have HCG and WCP in the "explore" portion of a LIRA and they are both nearing break-even after holding for a relatively long period. 85% of the account is in a "core" mix of low-cost CDN, US, and Global EFTs. The remaining 15% is split evenly between HCG, WCP, and SIS. Wondering if I should sell these two positions now that they are back to my ACB and if so, what two alternatives would you recommend from a growth perspective over the next 3-5 years?
Q: Outside of MG, TD and SLF (all of which I own) and their respective sectors, which companies in your coverage universe do you think fit traditional value metrics? Are there any companies in Canada that are outside of your coverage that you would both endorse and seem like value propositions? Thank-you.
Q: I need help with my TFSA. I should be at $51,000 as I added this year's amount. I am sitting at $39,500 with the following stocks - FCF, HCG, NA and STB. Could you make any recommendations to help this account get back on it's feet? To other investors, my biggest loss was from ABX, where I lost $8000. Be careful with Gold products.
Q: I am overweight in financials and have owned HCG for several years. I'm planning to sell at a (small) loss but would wait if you felt further price appreciation is likely.
Thanks for your advice.
Q: I'm a conservative investor and have been looking at the valuations on these three companies for awhile. All have good grades and have had decent pullbacks. What order would you rate purchasing these companies, or any other ones, based on least risk and greatest capital appreciation over the next two years. Thank you.
Q: HCG still is waiting for a banking license, once this is obtained and they can start taking deposits and diversify their revenue streams, some/many of the short sellers may get frustrated...for HCG, slow and steady wins the race, it is only a matter of time before HCG gets some more love for its merits. Is my rationale totally flawed or partly flawed? How do you see it? Thanks!
Q: Before year end, I must sell some shares in a relative's RIF account. The issue is whether to sell a winner, or one of 2 stocks that are in a loss position. The account has 1. OTC: cost 59.77, gain 37.5%, 2. AVO: cost 15.51, loss 20.18%, 3. HCG: cost 51.19, loss 41.1%. What do you recommend?
Q: What opinion on Home Capital and the information from short seller Marc Cohodes reported by BNN
Sudden un explained departure often mean problems on the inside.
Thanks
Jean
Q: I hold HCG and MFA in TFSAs at 1.4 and 1.8 percent, respectively, of my & my husband's total portfolio. (combined calculation as recommended by 5i!) They are both down close to 30% since I bought them. Given their percentages, should I just leave them, or should I take my loss in one or both, and move on? Thanks for your help and support.
Q: What stocks to sell short if Canadian housing bubble burst? I know the benefits and risks of shorting. As well as the fact that many believe that housing prices would ever go down. Obviously, I have a different opinion and would like to have your objective answer.
