Q: My 22 year old son received a $100,000 gift from his grandfather on his birthday. His TFSA and FHSA are fully funded so this money will go to funding his first unregistered account. The S&P 500 has shown an average annual return in excess of 13% over the past 15 years and over 20% in 2023. As such, it is tempting to just put the full amount in an S&P ETF, but having come off a 20% year gives one pause. What is your recommendation in this case?

Q: Hello 5i
Do you have any recent information or feelings about Novavax. I don't know if they have other exciting things in their vaccine pipeline or if they just missed the boat? Fortunately I'm "asking for a friend" looking at the chart NVAX has made money disappear for 3 years at an extraordinary pace.
Thanks as always! You have been a great resource !

Q: Thoughts about the earning release? Also, can you provide the % of short positions there are? I recall a lot of discussion in various investing forums about the demise of the mouse over the past 6 months, but things seem to be turning around. Do you think this is just a bounce or is this a good long term investment?

Q: Hi,
You may have seen an article in The Globe about KSS. It linked Stephen Harper chaired Hedge fund with a connection to Carl Ichan's protege and such. It is trading around 26 USD. It apparently rejected an offer of 64$. They wanted 70 $ which didn't materialize. I scanned the Q&A section and I don't see anything recently.

There seems to be a decent risk reward trade here.

What is the downside risk and if not KSS what are your other choices? Do you think KSS will be taken over by Stephen Harper's Hedge fund? Your guess is a lot better than mine!!

Many thanks.

Q: I’m currently a momentum/swing trader, but running out of names to hop on with everything up. Can you provide 5 US growth names that you might enter based on their current momentum? Either a bounce or continued rise in the next month?

Q: I hold a U.S.$ portfolio of 9 stocks geared to growth - all of which are doing well, in large measure to 5i questions/answers/ comments/suggestions. Thank you for providing such a beneficial service. I have just lightened up on Crowd and would like to add the proceeds to one of the other existing stocks that are at lower percentage holdings (CELH @ 1% , CROX @ 1.5%, Amazon @ 2.2%) . Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Q: From the media: “ Amgen stock slouched Wednesday after a Lilly exec called the company's early-stage test results for a weight-loss drug "a bit underwhelming."

Huh? What did they expect a competitor to say? I thought the quarterly results were good and the new drug seems quite promising.

What is 5i's take on the AMGN recent quarter (which beat) and future prospects? Wouldn’t it be better to buy AMGN after the sell-off than pay the overhyped price commanded by LLY?

Q: With recent gain in tech sector, are you concerned with valuations getting stretched. Is there some kind of euphoria being building which draws some parallel to 2000 tech bubble. Like 20-30% jump on META, NVDA, SMCI, ARM. Is there a suggested to mitigate risk while maintaining decent exposure. Thanks

Q: I was wondering if you knew much about FedNow. Online it says it will not replace apps like Venmo or Cash App, as it will depend on if your bank and the bank you are sending to opt in. But why would a bank not opt in? It sounds like many banks are already gearing up to implement it this summer. Once fully implemented at US banks, will it be similar to Canadian e-transfers? Why would customers not use it for P2P payments, such as splitting a tab, if it is free, just we we do here in Canada? Thanks.
