Q: I was recently in NYC and impressed with the Whole Foods Market near where we stayed. Looks like the stock has been a basket case since its high of ~$63 (USD) in late 2013. It is now trading at about $28, a bit below $30 support level where it has languished since the end of 2015. The fundamentals are looking decent and it pays a modest dividend (2.93%), but I wonder whether the space is too competitive to allow for much growth going forward?

I would appreciate your opinion of WFM for a long term value play.

Q: Good afternoon,
You recently responded to a question concerning put write etfs. My understanding is that such an etf may perform poorly in a bear market. Is there an etf trading in Canada employing an option strategy that would benefit from a bear market, apart from the highly leveraged short term products?
Thank you for your advice.

Q: Good day, 5i

I am looking for some strategic advice regarding my position in Twitter. I was up 20% yesterday, and today, on news that a few bidders have shied away (alphabet notably), I am now done 5%. Understanding your are not soothsayers , I'm looking for your experienced opinion on how to handle situation. Cut my losses, or go long on the hopes it is sold in the near future.

Many thanks,

Karim

Q: Hi 5i,

Has your opinon changed at all on the Walgreens and Rite Aid merger going through? They make it sound like the only condition to fulfill is to divest 1200 stores. Not sure if that's true?

The Rite Aid stock is at $7.50 right now and merger price is $9.00. That's a potential 20% return within the next 3 months. Is it worth the risk? I imagine doing an options call would be be more profitble "if" the merger happens?

Q: If you were unfortunate to have a full ( and under-water ) position in Alcoa , would you dump it now or wait for the split ... The prospective new company , Arconic could be OK, especially if it will be similar to Precision Cast Parts - but most analysts don't see any recovery in Alcoa if global supplies continue increasing .
I don't know the best strategy .
Thanks
Tom

Q: What are your thoughts on ATVI -- Activision Blizzard -- in terms of growth prospects and soundness of balance sheet. If it meets your approval, is this worth a full position in a portfolio -- which for me is 4%. ( I couldn't find any other mention in your archives, even though I was certain you had addressed this company's prospects at one time.) Thank you for you help. (Notwithstanding that this is NOT your area of focus, I always value your opinion.)

Q: Peter and His Wonder Team
I know this is an american company but I thought you might have a general perspective.I see it is hitting a new high today...why do you think? Would you consider it a buy, sell or hold at this price?
Thanks for bending the rules and commenting on a USA stock.

Q: Hi,
I'm loving GoPro lately. I took a position just a few months ago around $12. It's sitting at $17.45 right now. Could you offer some insight as to what's causing the run up and how far (I know it's asking for a crystal ball) you think it will go? Any other thoughts or insights you have into GoPro would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Q: Peter,
For derivative exposure re. wells Fargo, it has almost none as a percent of total exposure.
for the others:
JPM aound 7%
City around 9%
Goldman around 13%
Morgan Stanley around 28%
So on that metric only, Wells is a pretty good bet, notwithstanding the abomination of what they just did and their complete ignorance of respect of customers (50 shades of gray) and of respect of employees!!

Q: Peter and His Wonder Team
I will not be offended if you choose not to answer this question...firstly it is a USA company and secondly it is a contrarian play. In having owned oil stocks during this downturn I am painfully aware of the risks involved. I am analyzing this company which has hugh upside if it can survive another year or two. They are being kicked out of the S&P600 on Oct. 3rd to be replaced by a healthier company. Since they are owned by mutual funds I expect there will be a further sell off. So how would you rate there survivability...there balance sheet, management strength and overall impression of this company within there sector.
Thanks for tackling this out of bounds company...
Respectfully yours...

Q: Hi 5i team,

I have Nxpi semiconductor stock in both registered and non-registered accounts both with positive gains. With the news of a take over what would be the best approach going forward. How do I know when to sell, do I wait for a formal offer as the news appears that they are only in talks with qcom at this point in time. I am thinking of putting the non registered US dollars into Oclaro Oclr-q.

Thank you
Mike
