Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I bought a number of shares in this name last week hoping for a positive move on earnings. It looks like it missed by a few cents and is getting pounded after hours. I'm guess that it will be down a lot tomorrow so the question i have is whether I should sell or hold and hope it recovers. I'm not a long term investor. Appreciate your comments as always on earnings. Thank you.

Q: i own half a position in UTX. I have been holding off on buying the other half due to the pending spin offs. i don't really want to hold Otis or Carrier individually and based on my small position in UTX the spin off would likely result in having very small shares in each company. Would you just sell what I have now, wait for the spin offs then buy back in to UTX or just buy the other half position and call it a day?

Q: Hello team,

In your answer to Peter, you listed the above companies for a healthcare watch list. Sorry to corner you by asking about your favorite and why?

CVS is cheap and has long-term promise, but I bet your choice will be between ANTM and HUM based on management. Will you endorse both for purchase in the near future? Why or why not?

Or will you prefer something completely outside this list?

Many thanks for your invaluable objectivity and guidance!

Q: The tax treatment of these ETFs (and typical of others) is difficult to determine. Dividends are withheld from these ETFs but are applied to the book value of the stock. We still pay for the dividend as income (with tax credits) but when the stock is sold, the capital gains are reduced by the amount added to the book value. Capital gains are taxed at 50%. Does it matter if we hold these in a RRIF or personal account? I'm retired and total dividend income is below $50k.
