Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Good morning. I own the above in my TFSA. I'm up a bit on KEYS, down a bit on GRUB, and more or less even on the others. There was a recent question on which technology companies you would buy right now and I own everything on your Canadian list but only NVDA on your American list. My question is, which of my holdings would you consider replacing with something off of the American suggestions.
Thanks for your advice.

Q: Hi 5i team,
A number of companies show up regularly on your favourite lists, which seems to be a popular feature with your subscribers. I have held SPLK in the past. It has been well over a year since any question on it. A lot of analysts are quite positive on SPLK in the big data and cybersecurity space and it doesn’t seem crazy expensive for a tech stock. Obviously, all can’t make the top tier lists. I am curious on your view on SPLK and what keeps it from making the cut.
Thanks again for the insight.
Dave

Q: I asked about the pros and cons of this investment and it caused an error message.
I'm 68 and have little fixed income.
In an effort to be more clear this is a preferred and pays about 8%.
I'm adding a paragraph from a Baron's article hoping to clear up any confusion.

Newly issued preferred stock from Qurate Retail, the top home-shopping business controlled by media mogul John Malone, offers investors a lofty yield of more than 8%.

The preferred (ticker: QRTEP) has an 8% annual dividend and a maturity in 2031, and it finished Friday at $94.12, up $2.37. The preferred trades at a discount to its face value of $100. This results in a current yield of around 8.5% and a yield to maturity of about 8.75%.

Q: Orion Energy Systems, Inc. seems to be on a remarkable run lately. Do you discern any characteristics that would make it any more than a speculative short-term hold?

Q: We are looking for a US Industrial to add into a portfolio for my daughter who is 21 years old. We have followed your balanced portfolio and she owns SIS, WSP, CAE and TFII. We are currently considering Systemax SYX which just reported good earnings and has jumped in price. I know it is a company that you do not follow closely but would it be a decent addition in the industrial space for a long term investor early in their investing “career”?

Q: In your opinion, how does OSTK fair in comparison to its competitors? Their last two quarters seemed great and their business has some diversity with the blockchain wing. And yet, their stock has been punished quite heavily as part of the broader market sell off. Would you consider it a "buy" at these levels? Thanks.
