Q: Hello 5i,
I came across this equity when you recommended it earlier. I am assuming that given you listed it first, it would be the highest-ranked choice out of the options you provided. My parameters are very similar to those of the member who asked the initial question; we are retired, conservative, dividend-oriented investors with a more or less well-balanced portfolio as per P.A. We are very slightly under in Financial Services and underweight the U.S. by about 4.0%.
So, (finally) to my question: what kind of weighting might you recommend for MAIN:US? My thought was something in the 2.0 - 2.5 % range bearing in mind that if I make up the difference in the U.S. with another holding, I need to have a minimum of 1.0 - 1.25% available for that as well.
Many thanks!!!
Best to all at 5i!
Cheers,
Mike

Q: Yesterday you said that you would pick (TOI, LSPD, BAMA, CUS, GSY, WELL, WSP) as your 7 Cdn stocks to hold for 5-10 years without selling. What would you choose as your 7 U.S. stocks? Thank you.

Q: IRBT got smashed by the market after their earnings on July 28th. They are now trading below their 200 day moving average. From my read of the earnings transcript, things on the top line are going very well, and the earnings disapointment is directly attributable to a shortage in semiconductors, getting caught in the US tariffs on Chinese goods (which they claim will change in the back half of 2021), and supply chain issues. But demand for their products seems to outstrip supply by a wide margin.

My questions: do you think IRBT is a good long term buy right now, or could it drift lower? Are hedgies selling? Is the short interest still high relative the past? Are they making progress with their strategy to switch to recurring revenue? What does the competitive landscape look like?

Thanks

Q: Hi 5I team. I am attempting to set up a long period (5 year) US portfolio for an educational fund for my grandchildren.
Considering that I read 5I question answers daily, let us see if I have retained any wisdom and your current preferences by sector-
FIN(JPM); Health(ABBV); Real Estate(WPC); Materials (NTR); Info Tech (PLTR); Energy(CVX);Industrials(CAT); COMM(VZ)

would you change any of these choices?

Thank you

Q: Morgan Stanley just issued a warning that the “commodity-type” semiconductor companies (DRAM and other) have entered late-cycle. MS adds that earnings going forward for such companies will be challenged. I hold more than a full allocation in semis once I include semiconductor securities held directly.

My question is on SOXX which is held in a taxable account. What components in, and what percent of, SOXX would be considered DRAM and other commodity-type companies? Would I be correct in thinking if the percentage of the said commodity-type companies is higher than 15% , it would be best to trim? (I would not be trimming securities that are held directly).

Q: Hi !

Would you suggest a top-five list of Canadian companies that have a monthly dividend--with an eye to capital preservation?
Perhaps the same parameters except that it would be for American companies?

Much appreciated!
