Q: I have invested in both canadian and u.s.a stocks,my question is,there is a lot of chatter about the demise of the u.s.a currency,should i sell my u.s.a stocks and stay in canada as well as buy more gold and silver. the u.s.a debt is unsustainable and the dollar will be devalued, how about other countries that are safe to invest in. greatly value your oppinion. thanku

Q: I have been looking at Lyondellbasil (LYB:NYSE) and Methanex (MX:TSX) as potential plays on the US industrial/chemical resurgence and cheap natural gas prices. I notice that LYB is not mentioned very often despite having had a great run and IMO still trading cheap relative to the rest of the S&P 500 (forward P/E). What are your thoughts on LYB? Is it worth picking up or is Methanex a better investment?

Q: Hi Peter. I have been following SDRL the last couple of months. It is a top pick of some analysts. My question is I have a concern for its high debt (Not convinced they can cover it). Is the high dividend sustainable and will the stock go up over the next few years. Thanks. Rene

Q: In his recent shareholders letter, Warren Buffett gave this advice: "My money, I should add, is where my mouth is: What I advise here is essentially identical to certain instructions I’ve laid out in my will. One bequest provides that cash will be delivered to a trustee for my wife’s benefit. (I have to use cash for individual bequests, because all of my Berkshire shares will be fully distributed to certain philanthropic organizations over the ten years following the closing of my estate.) My advice to the trustee could not be more simple: Put 10% of the cash in short-term government bonds and 90% in a very low-cost S&P 500 index fund. (I suggest Vanguard’s.) I believe the trust’s long-term results from this policy will be superior to those attained by most investors – whether pension funds, institutions or individuals – who employ high-fee managers." He doesn't suggest putting the money in BRK.
As a portfolio manager what would your thoughts be. I understand his wife is 66-67yrs old.
Thanks
Mike

Q: re Chesapeake Energy Corp. CHK + takeover

Have just read an article spouting rumors (unconfirmed) that Exxon after buying XTO Energy in 2010 for the purpose of penetrating the shale gas market, is poised to become a leader in the market by acquiring CHK. I own Exxon for the long haul and was wondering;

1) what CHK looks like long term as an investment should the rumor not come to fruition?
2) how a merger if it did happen would effect both XOM & CHK?
3) any comments you have on the Shale Gas Market in general?

Thank Peter & Family, always appreciate and value your input

Q: USG Corp (USG)

Been doing my regular research this morning and have noticed Birskshire Hathaway just purchased over 24 million shares (almost 1% of the total portfolio position) in USG.

Does Mr. Buffet & Company know something we don't? (actually there is lots he knows that we don't)

Note... there has been a 14% correction for the stock over the last 30 days.

Thank Peter and Family
