Q: Hi - I'm just starting to invest actively at age 45 with a 15 yr timeline. I have 25k cash in a self directed rrsp and 8k cash in a tfsa. I want to keep long term growth in the rrsp (I can tolerate volatility) and make riskier investments in my tfsa. I'm looking at flyht (fly.v) and CMH for starters in my tfsa and wondering what you think and if you have any other suggestions. For my rrsp, I'm going to take positions in the model portfolio but so many of the stocks have had quite a run up and have high PE's; should I take my time and wait for a pullback? Thanks for your time. Our total portfolio is the 25+8k I mentioned in my question, but I am contributing 30k per year now and intend to increase that over the next 15 years.
Q: Hi Peter & Team:
Thank you for your excellent service.
My TFSA account has $16K cash now.
I am holding: DHX, HCG,MG,PRW,QST, BDI,SJ
which section should I enter at this moment? My goal is growth with dividend. Not too risky.
I am 49 and long term holding investor.
Thank you
Adriana
Q: Good Afternoon,
I will be making my annual RRSP contribution in the next week or so and based on your research and all the Q & A here I have narrowed it down to 2 stocks, CXI or DHX.b. I was leaning toward CXI but it has taken a huge run in the last week or so now not so sure. This is for the very long term, which one of the two do you feel has the most upside. Thank-you
Q: Hi Peter! My 21 year old has 10k in his TFSA and is looking to invest the proceeds with a 3-5 year time horizon. He's looking for growth and would like to put 1k in 10 different names. Could you include your thoughts on 10-12 names for inclusion. Ian
Q: I'm going to be 70 yrs old this year and promised myself to get more conservative by switching out of stocks and going to efts, We have no debt and our pensions cover our living expenses. Our portfolio is 60% tfsa and 40% taxable account no rrsps all cashed out. We will be using some of our money each year at least 5-10% for trips and or home maintenance. Presently have 40% of tfsa split between bmo zlb & zlu low volatility but not sure if this the right way to go. I'm looking at going vanguard worldwide wide broad based except Canada then Canada but at what percent would be best and what etf for tfsa and taxable regular investing acct. Do not want any fixed income etfs because we always seem to have enough cash on hand for emergency. Mainly want to be well diversified.
thanks
Q: Hello Peter & Co.
I hold in my TFSA DHX Media, Evertz Technologies and Prometic Life Sciences. I would like to add 3 more in what I would call the "knowledge-based" industry. I already own in my RRIF:
Health/Pharma: CCT,CPH,CXR,GUD,RX and VRX
Tech: CGI,CSU,DSG,ESL,MDA and OTC
Thanks, as always
Antoine
Q: I have sold Manulife(RRSP) and IGM and(TFSA) and am dithering between CXI, GUD and BIN for the two replacements.
On your report card metrics, CXI scores an A on most of them and BIN gets a C on one year growth, although it gets an A on stability. However you suggest 10% weight for BIN and half of that for CXI. I did not understand why you would want it that way for a TFSA account.
I am fairly diversified, though a little light on pharma(PHM, PLI). Which 2 of 3 mentioned above would you recommend for TFSA and RRSP accounts? I would greatly value your suggestion.
Appreciate your service as always.
Q: Re your advice to Lois today. You suggest moving this stock to get the div tsx cdt I thought all Cdn capital gains and dividends were tax free in the TFSA. Pls clarify

Q: Good morning,
Time for my wife and I to make our TFSA contribution and in that regard I am wondering if I should stick with splitting between BTE & TRP which are the only two holdings in our accounts from day one or branch out and add another growth equity to the mix.
Thanks.
Q: Hi there,
Looking to buy cipher or constellation. The latter looks pricey and the macd suggests now is not the bst time. Looking for growth in my tfsa. Which would you recommend? Or maybe Dxh.b instead?
Q: Hello
would you suggest any or all of the above companies for a TFSA purchase for this year? Or do you have any other suggestions?
Thanks for all your help. I really enjoy this site...good job!
To start an TFSA account with$10,000, what would you suggest to do? buy an eft or pick stocks, please suggest some names for long term holding with low risk. Thanks. Lin
Q: I am wondering if I should sell TD and buy CXI but CXI is hitting a new high should I wait until it come down a bit in price? This would be in my TSFA. I currently own T , AYA , TRP , WCP in equal weight.
Thanks
Dolores
Q: Hello, my question is about Westernone. I hold this company in a LIF account and am thinking of transferring it at the current low valuation to avoid paying higher taxes later in the event it recovers (hopefully). I planned to withdraw from this account later in the year anyway. What do you think of the idea and if the idea is sound should it be transferred into a cash account or my TFSA.
Thanks so much for the guidance.
Brian
Q: Good Morning to all on this snowy day!! I would like to allocate some money to my kids TFSA's. Which would be a better long term holding..MX (Methanex) or Alimentation Couche Tard. Cheers, Tamara
Q: For a couple in their late 70s, what what would you recommend for our TSFA. So far we have contributed every year and bought GICs, (2%) with the thought rates would soon be higher. The opposite has happened. What would you suggest we do now?
We don't need the money, but would like to keep it safe. Otherwise we have a diversified portfolio of your income, and some of the model portfolio. Any advice you have would be appreciated. Cheers!
