I plan to take this year's TFSA contribution and divide it equally between ARE, REAL & XBC. The goal is growth. Any dire warnings before I proceed? Thank you.

Q: I need to invest the new $6000 TFSA contribution for my 24-year old son. He won't need to touch the money for a long time. What would be your suggestion for this investment , given that his other holdings are already mainly growth oriented (SHOP, CSU, SIS, PHO, XIC and ZLB)?

Q: I am wondering what your 5-6 best TFSA contrib ideas are for where we are in this market. I am kinda a guy who favours a thematic approach to investing as opposed to buying a roll-up-er like CSU or ATD. I'm looking to buy a name today that is good & getting better and hopefully one that will bear a lot of fruit in 3-5 years. Happy New Year!

Q: Greetings 5i - I am helping my 29-year old daughter with her TFSA. She has $9,500 to invest and we're thinking about putting it into VFV:CA so she has some US exposure. She currently holds BNS, FTS, PPL and PBH. Alternatively, we were thinking of dividing it between AQN and ATD.B or BAM. Would appreciate your thoughts on what's best for a long term hold. Q: good morning 5i and all the best of the season to you.

in a question asked earlier this morning someone asked about some core holdings in a tfsa. you gave a handful of stocks which look good. i am always trying to allocate stocks in the best account. one of the points i look at is dividend yield. i try to gwt higher yielding Canadian stocks into my non registered account in order to get the dividend tax credit. of course you lose this in a tfsa. i noticed that a couple of the stocks which you mentioned as core holdings in a tfsa had dividends. MG for instance has over a 2 % yield. i was wondering what considerations do you take into account when looking at putting a dividend paying stock into a tfsa?

Q: Hi. I own TCL.a in a non-registered account & NFI in a TFSA, both at a huge loss currently. My questions are:
1) What do you think is the risk of continuing to hold these stocks now?
2) What do you think of their potential over the next year and in the years beyond? Do you think they can recover?

Since NFI is inside my TFSA, should I sell it and buy something else? TCL.a could sell for a capital loss. If I have to sell either one, which one should go first? Or should I wait another quarter before doing so? Thanks for your help.

Q: Can I transfer some BYD.un from my non registered cash account to my TSFA. I would use the max contribution for 2020 or $6,000 I suspect that the moment I transfer then it triggers the Capitol gain on my cash account is my assumption correct ? is there any other way to take cash from TSFA in shares or cash. ?Thanks

Q: Good morning 5i,
Once again thank you for the excellent service and advice that you give so generously. This morning there was a question about putting Boyd into a TFSA. I had been wondering the same thing. But, you mention that you dont really see it as a high growth stock. I imagine I would be better to put Google in, if I want growth. That means another capital gain, however. The beauty of Boyd is that you have to take the cap gain anyway. Getting to be a long story here. But, how would Parklawn compare with Boyd in putting in a TFSA?

Q: My wife and I are interested in growth possibilities for our 2020 TFSA contributions. Thanks to your previous advice we’ve done very well on SHOP, LSPD, KXS, GSY, CSU. We’re solely interested in tax-free growth in our TFSA accounts and have investing balance covered in other accounts. Considering positive momentum, which of these would you recommend adding to for the most torque?
Alternatively, could you recommend 2-3 other picks you could get behind at this time.

Q: Thanks for your many comments on the securities cited. Currently I hold small positions in both in my TFSA and with the New Year fast approaching, I wonder if I would be best served if I transferred both to my taxable account and increased my contribution room in the TFSA for 2020 and expanded my holdings in the TFSA with other securities next year. Q: Goodmorning
My wife will be making a contribution to her rrsp this year before it will be turned into a RIFF. She has bam.a in her TFSA would you recommend transferring in kind Bam.a or cash which she also has available in her TFSA and keeping Bam.a in the TFSA?

Q: I'm 21 years old and am planning on making a TFSA portfolio of Canaidan companies (Mostly Blue-chip dividend paying stocks, IE, Banks, Telcos etc....) to buy and hold forever. I'm also planning on adding SHOPIFY in my TFSA and placing BABA in my RRSP. I was thinking XAW in RRSP as well top get american/international exposure, Just wondering your thoughts on this and any advice would be great. Also do you think it's a good idea to invest now or wait for a market correction or just avergae in over time in all of these companies.

Q: What would be a good company to buy shares in for a teenager for his first investment? It was mentioned before that it increases interest in investing if the teen knows about the company. I was thinking of Costco, Disney, Mcdonalds?

Q: TFSA question. My wife and I will will retire in 10-15 years. I have a stock portfolio, She will have a good pension and we own our house. As a retirement bonus I had her max her TFSA. The stand alone portfolio is down over the last 2.5 years, took big hits on TSGI, CRH, NFI, COV, LGO that are all now sold but still own PHO, GIL, MX. The other holding are BYD.un, WSP, CAE, KXS, ATD.b, BNS, ATA, CCL.b and 1/2 LSPD. I would like to clean things up and get a better mix of growth stocks to manage for the next 10-15 years. At this time what changes would be logical or just hold as is? I was looking at DOO, PKI, ECN, GSY, SHOP.

Q: I have 5 grandchildren between the ages of 0 and 11. I'd like to buy 5 stocks in my TFSA to leave alone until they are adults. Of course, I will monitor the stocks the same as I do for my other stocks, but the idea is that I would not sell unless there is a big fundamental change, and consider them a small independent portfolio. As the children come of age, the idea would be to sell a little of each I'm thinking SHOP might be an option for one holding. Can you suggest 5 stocks that would be suitable?

Q: Wondering about where to contribute and add to next . I have a TFSA and RSP self directed ( no unreg'd trading accounts )

Started investing in the TFSA 1st so my RSP is far behind it in $ levels . Now that I have contribution room , plus more on Jan 1 should i go with ..

Topping up EMA in my RSP , would be heaviest weighting if so with TD on top right now .
Topping up RY , NFI , MFC or NPI ( all being medium weight with TD and AQN on top )
Or adding BEP or SRU as new holding to either TFSA or RSP , leaning towards BEP myself .

Q: Good morning 5i. My TFSA has re-trenched from a high of 108 k down to the low 90k's. My holdings were all good growth stocks but gone are TOY, SIS, NFL P.B.. I will jettison CAE this week. So I'm left with Go Easy, Boyd, and Kinaxis with a lot of cash. I will ad Bama, and Atd.B. Can you suggest 5 more dividend payers with some growth prospects for a 3 to 5 year hold. Many thanks .david
