Q: In my mind, AI was a threat to DUOL since I thought it would lower the bar considerably for people to use the open source to create a language conversion program. But I've seen many like 5i and other growth investors really like their runway. It's there any merit to my concern, or is AI in fact increasing their moat or enhancing their first-mover advantage?

Q: Given that you chose 4 Canadian companies in response to my earlier question, as a follow up question, would you kindly pick 4 US stocks that you believe could increase in value by 1000% over the next 10 years. Each must have a current market cap of at least $750M. Please provide a short reason for selecting each stock. Thank you.

Q: Overall, I prefer small and mid-cap Canadian stocks for growth and accept the risk that goes with this. Currently, I do not have anything in the tech space and would appreciate if you would suggest a few names.

Thank you,
John

Q: hi, would you consider these more on the risky side, or just smaller cap? I read Hammond EPS around 15 which seems fine to me. I can't find an EPS on LMN?
is this a decent entry point for each? if not, what price would be a more reasonable entry point?
cheers, Chris

Q: I’ve held VEEV and OKTA for a few years in a registered account but they have become a relatively small holdings. Are either of these worth adding to in order to increase their portfolio weighting, letting them ride for a while longer or perhaps selling one or both and consolidating the proceeds into something else. I’m a buy and hold type so don’t mind holding either of them but wondering about the opportunity cost of doing so.

Q: Hi, I own a bit of Lumine at a fantastic average cost. It obviously has had a run and is settling down in 2024. I have some extra cash now because of a fresh TFSA year. Would you be a buyer of LMN right now on the pullback? This would make my ACB jump quite a bit, so curious. Would you wait a bit to let is drop a few bucks more? Thanks for your great work.

Q: I received shares of lumine but i have been rather lax regarding them, since i already had a lot of csu and toi. But, tou mentionning it the past few days has piqued my interest. So, i have a couple of questions. My account indicates that I have about a million and a half percent profit! That can’t be right. Is there something that i don’t know happening here?
Thanks for yourexcellent business, as usual

Q: With the potential Bit Coin Spot ETF ruling on January 10th from the SEC being a positive one for BlackRock, Vanguard, Fidelity, Ark and other Investment Companies, does it make sense (and dollars) to take a nibble on HIVE or MARA (knowing there would be a 30% currency hit in the case of Mara)? I realize things will be very volatile so just a small position to start. Thanks, Lesley

Q: Hello, I have the following in my TFSA: GIB.A, OTEX, NVEI, KXS, DSG, DOL, NXR.UN, with more or less the same weight. I am under water with NVEI, KXS, NXR.UN. Should I just sell OTEX, DSG and GIB.A and buy XIT instead and wait for NVEI and KXS to break even before selling them and buy XIT? I know XIT has 50% in SHOP and CSU and 5i likes CSU very much. I am less sure about SHOP. What is your opinion of SHOP for a long term hold? I did not fully understand their recent change of strategy. FYI, I have US tech names in a cash account, that’s why I am looking at CDN names in my TFSA. Thanks.

Q: Hi, Technology sector had a great 2023 and most Large/Mid cap Co stocks on both sides of the border saw outsized gains. Kinaxis, in the group appears to be an outlier and continues to be a laggard. Descartes Systems, which, I believe, operates in similar Logistics/Supply Chain management solutions, has performed quite well and apparently not impacted by the challenges faced by KXS.

What, in your view, are the factors contributing to this underperformance and are these issues transitory? You have recommended to hold on to this stock due to zero/low debts, strong customer base and its highly successful/unique programs for the industry. What are the catalysts and the basis of your recommendation, despite stock's continued poor performance ? There is a cost to Capital for an investor and may be, it's time to move on and look for better opportunities and more efficient deployment of funds.

Thank You

Q: I'm retired with a relatively conservative portfolio. Would like to add a bit of risk / reward and have considered LMN, partly because of its link to a very solid CSU. Questions:

How much influence / control does CSU have on this company? Is there a way to describe it or measure it ?

In a long recession scenario, generally speaking would the odds of its survival be better because of its association with CSU compared to other small caps?

It's P/S multiple appears to be around 3.6 X. This seems somewhat reasonable to me compared to some tech stocks in the U.S. Would you agree / disagree ?

Q: Recently, David Friedberg was asked for his prediction for the worse performing asset in 2024. He said he would be short vertical market software (SaaS) and be long cloud providers that have AI tools and platforms that will allow enterprises to build their own custom applications in a low-cost, low code way. If things play out this way, do you feel it could pose a risk to CSU’s business model?

Q: Good afternoon 5i
I have noticed that recently you have been recommending stocks like Nvdia as having the possibility of short term growth. I have sold call options on Nvidia on a regular basis but wonder if I might be better holding off on this strategy for a time, beause of the possibility of short term growth you mentionned. I do only sell a small portion of my Nvidia for options and keep some in reserve, so I will not completely miss an upside move. But, still we hate to see the stock move well above the strike price. How do you approach a situation like this?
thanks
