Q: Hello 5i,
I currently hold CSU KXS ENGH and SHOP. I'm wondering where OTC ranks with these? Should I add OTC to the group, swap one of the others for OTC or do nothing? My tech holdings are about 20% of my portfolio and I like growth and can handle above average risk.
Thanks
Dave
Q: Blackberry is touting their new operating system for automobiles as something that could take off (Financial Post today). It seems reasonable that auto OS's need to become more robust and secure. Can Blackberry deliver and does this make the stock interesting?
Q: I am just looking to expand my breadth of knowledge in the 'self driving car space.' With the exception of Texas Instruments (which I already own). Are there any other companies with exposure to this area that look like interesting investments?
Q: You've referenced the relationship between SHOP and AMZN in recent questions, but haven't said anything specific about the relationship - could you tell me/us what the relationship is? Is there a financial relationship between the two, or does SHOP help AMZN indirectly through better inventory management of sellers?
Also, I used to own Channel Advisor (ECOM) (which I think is in a similar business as SHOP). I sold ECOM at a loss and am wondering how the two differ, and why SHOP is the better preformer, if you are aware?
Q: Why there is always big difference on percentage in trading SHOP on TSX and trading SHOP on NYSE.
Is it better to buy SHOP on NYSE or TSX and why? I have US$ acct. and CAD $ acct.
Thanks Andrew
I am looking to buy a technology stock. Which of these two names would you prefer or is there another name you would suggest? If you had the option would you buy this in a TFSA or investment account?
Q: Best of the Season to All at 5i
Is 5i planning to do report on Shopify? If so, I was wondering if you could address the following: Shopify now has a market cap in excess of $5B. It has negative earnings, and is not expected to make a profit in 2017. Its estimated revenues in 2017, according to Morningstar are approx $0.55B
To put this in perspective, Linamar has a market cap of $3.8B. It made $350M of free cash flow in 2015 and will increase that in 2016. This is AFTER some $375M of capital investment is subtracted from earnings. I realize they are in entirely different industries, but if I could magically own one company or the other outright today, I would choose LNR in a heartbeat.
The market is always right I suppose, and you have a 100% gain on SHOP in your growth portfolio. But at what point does the reality of fundamentals come into play?
I recall years ago when Ballard Power had a higher market cap than Loblaws. That happened.
P.S. Yes, I do have a case of sour grapes because I did not heed your advice and buy SHOP when you recommended it!
Cheers
John
Q: You've said this stock is expensive. What do you think of the citrus tweet which dropped it so much on Wednesday? If you were going to shift money to a different stock in the sector (aside from AMD which I also own) where would you put it?
Q: ZQQ-T (BMO Nasdaq 100 hedged) and XQQ-T (BMO Nasdaq 100 hedged) appears to contain the same tech companies in the same proportion. What difference do you see between the two ? What would be the equivalents on the U.S. market and is it better to buy this type of etf on the Cdian market (hedged) or directly on the U.S. Market ?
Thanks for your good attention,
Q: Wilan is taking me on a wild ride. Do you think they are gearing themselves to be bought? And would 4.00 be a fair price for someone to buy their patent portfolio? Stock is moving up everyday!!!
