Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: I would like to increase my stock weight in technologies. I only currently have a 1,5% in BB and 2,5% in PHO. I have a 5% cash position in my TFSA to invest with a long-term growth (10years+) horizon. What tech company would you recommend for a new position?
Thank you,

Q: My Consumer-Cyclical sector is 6% too high and Technology sector is 2% too low.

So need to sell one of (AW.UN, BPF.UN, BYD.UN, CCL.B, CGX, ECI), each with ~ 2% position. Hard to sell any of these tried-true 'favourites' -but trying to take the emotional side out of the decision, and be disciplined. So, I think I should sell CGX because it has been flat for 2 years and I don't expect much upside. Can you provide your an order of selling preference?

And I need to add to these existing Technology Sector holdings (CSU, ENGH, KXS, MDA, PUR, SHOP). Thinking (OTEX, ITC) or more of existing ones.

57 year-old with a Growth & Sector & Dividend oriented portfolio.

As always, thank you for your wise guidance.

CSU, CCL, MDA, ECI, ENGH, BYD, OTEX, SHOP, AW, BPF, PUR, ITC

Q: Hi on Feb 9th you mentioned it was hard to make a case for owning RKN
today they announced their "New Strategic Plan for long term growth and sustained profitability" as the share price is now $1.20 do they look any better . No position currently
- Also the former CEO and current board member Lucas Skoczkowski sold well over 2 million shares in a black out period . Will this create any negative scenario for the company
Thanks

Q: Just joined and will be slowly adopting your balanced equity model portfolio.

I am heavily overweight in financial ( 25%) and energy ( 19%) and have very low exposure to tech ( 2%). Which 1 or 2 of the tech stocks currently in your portfolio/research would be best to add at this point in time. I will probably drop each by about 5% to get 10% into the tech stocks you suggest as a first move.

Q: How do you decide when a stock is over-priced? SHOP is trading at some dizzying heights and I am wondering how one decides when it may be fully valued. In the past, for example, you have noted that you have a hard time deciding if Amazon is a worthwhile investment or not due to its stock price.

Appreciate your insight.

Q: Follow the money. The company has been aggressively buying back shares during the past 12 months. Then there is very large insider selling by the the CEO followed by earnings that were poor and the share price is well below where most of the share repurchases occurred. If the company knew they were in a transition year (stated in their q release) and earnings were going to slow or falter should they have been buying shares back at 9-11 bucks? Or waiting till after this weak quarter to buy back shares at much better prices. Looks to me like the CEO is taking care of himself and not acting in our best interest. Your thoughts?
