Q: Happy New Year Peter & Team :
I am interested in the micro-cap company Input Capital Corp INP.V I read with interest your answer to Owen dated October 06, 2013 and wonder if you have any additional information.

They lend money to canola farmers in exchange for 6 year contracts giving Input the right to buy a certain percentage of the crop for an average price of $79.05 per ton which the farmer then delivers to the grain elevator who in turn pays Input the prevailing price for canola, currently about $450 per tonne.

The canola price has ranged from about $250/tonne to over $700/tonne over the last 10 years. I cannot determine whether Input engages in futures trading or not to hedge their expected profits, nor whether this could be a good practice or not.

This looks like an excellent business based on a proven business model and has enormous potential growth. Supposedly crop insurance protects Input in case of a crop disaster, and there is perennial global demand for the canola. They currently have 10 signed contracts worth $18.1 million, about $767,000 cash in hand, and no debt.

The issue I see is the cost of capital to Input, and whether there will be future share dilution. If Input can borrow at a reasonable rate [5-6%] it should go well but if Input are borrowing at 10% or higher it may not be economic. Can you find out the relevant facts on this company for me and give me your valued opinion.
Many thanks... Paul

Q: Avalon (AVL) entered into an agreement (Nov 27) with Lincoln Park Capital Fund, where AVL could sell $30M shares in the next 3 years and Lincoln is obliged to buy it at the prevailing market price. With AVL having no debt and this long term commitment of presumable knowledgeable people would that represent a good opportunity in an out of favor segment. Thanks for your great service, and Happy New Year to your team.

Q: Peter, Have done well with DHX Media (DHX-T) with one purchase @ $1.56 and another @ $2.07. It's now $5.59 and I'm thinking of Selling and moving on.
Bought Enterprise (E-T)in Oct/13 and it doesn't do much. What do you think?
If I sell DHX, I am looking at some Stockchase ideas as follows:
Axia NetMedia (AXX-T)
GuestLogix (GXI-T)
Merus Labs (MSL-T)
Neulion (NLN-T)
Symbility Solutions (SY-X)

Your thoughts please.

Q: Regarding AXX (Axia) what is the PE net of their cash position (once the sales close)?
You mentioned in an answer to a previous question they don't appear to have a good growth profile, however, in the most recent quarter they reported 14% YOY EBITDA growth. The covage network in France appears to have a good growth profile and the new network coming on line in Massachussets should add even further growth.
They appear to have a strong clean balance sheet and a proven ability to develop and monetize these fibre networks. I would think longer term someone either buys out their networks or they'll turn into a nice cash cow type utility company. Am I missing something here what's not to like?

Q: Peter...Congratulations on creating 5i. It is such a needed and valuable educational-consulting type service. We are all delighted with you and your team. I am sure your membership will continue to grow substantially!
My question...
In recent past Benj Gallander has recommended APT and AJX as good contrarian plays. However I notice they are very close to there 52 week highs! It is my understanding that contrarians are suppose to buy low and sell high. In any event how would you rate these companies?
Thanks for your expertise and insight!
