Q: For the past 8 years I have been trying to pick up yield by buying convertible debentures. My objective for the past few years was to get a yield to maturity of at least 5% on these debentures. Today Superior Plus is redeeming one of their convertible debentures (SPF.DB.F). I would like to buy another convertible debenture from the cash that I will be receiving. I am considering NWH.DB.B or NWH.DB.C. Both of them have yields to maturity in excess of 5%. What do you think of these two convertible debentures as a fixed income investment? Note that I am not concerned with conversion privilege. This is a proxy for exposure to a fixed income vehicle. I am only concerned about the yield and the company's ability to pay the principal at maturity.

Thank you

Q: I have held MRT.UN for about ten years. The reported book value is $25.56 while the stock trades for about $15.70, yielding 6.1%. Why is there such a large discrepancy between those two figures? Is this discrepancy a sign of poor management? What can management do to get those two figures closer together? Do you consider MRT.UN a Sell, Hold, or Buy? and why?

Q: Question on CSH:Own small position 800 shares CSH at ACB of 6.87$. Thinking of switching to NWH.UN also selling loser TA to soak the capital gain and provide enough for 2% position or is adding to position of CSH better. Like the additional 4% monthly distribution. Also own SIA at 2% position. Is it worth the risk for the higher yield ? Wht is the best course of action in your view ? On portfolio review list but not before december I was told unless it improved ?

Q: I own a basket of REITs and am concerned about Cominar, moreso after their bought deal at a large discount yesterday. They are not growing and with a high payout ratio it seems to me that the deal may have been in an effort to avoid a cut in their monthly distribution. My position is a little down since purchase quite a few years ago, but would rather sell now than at $10.
Appreciate your advice

Q: Hi,
I hold the above REITs in my RRSP account. What do you think of them? I don't really want to hold more than 3 but do you think that I should consider a change?
Thanks, Bryn

Q: I have read your answers to questions about WIR.U which trades on TSE. You state that it pays dividends in US$ which is correct, but you say that it trades in CF. In fact, it trades in US$ and is more efficiently bought in a US$ account.

If you have any updates on the merits of this company which specialises in warehouse and distribution centres on the US, I would like to hear them.

Q: I currently have no position in reits, but do own personal property, which accounts for 50% of my total assets.
I have limited income producing assets (mainly dividends & growth stocks).
I have some cash I am sitting on, thinking that the Fall season often likes to give us a tumble and wondering if I shouldn't put 10% of my portfolio into reits.
Could give advise me on which ones to purchase at this time. (In order of preference).
Would there be an advantage of going with an ETF REIT (either Cdn or U.S,). This purchase would be in an rsp acct. And if you agree which is your preference.
Thank you for being there.

Q: HI guys,
I own shares in ESL which is down 25% this year so far. I am debating adding to this sector by purchasing SH or selling ESL. What are your expectations for SH for 2016-2017?
I also own MST.UN through a non registered personal account and am looking to buy D.UN-they are giving a 9.2% return. Would you consider this a good acquisition given the low real estate environment in Alberta? Do you think keeping this in a personal non- registered account is a good move with respect to taxes?
Also I plan to buy shares in Suncor and then doing closed calls. I have never done this before and am nervous about it because I don't really understand it. I also don't know which website to use to research calls and sells on a daily basis. Any suggestions?
Thanks for all your help,
Rob

Q: I read thru the MD&A this morning and what I THINK I see is an albeit very small company that now has competent management (Eli Dadouch of Firm Capital basically booted the previous idiot out) with high insider ownership (30%) and a turnaround that, while far short of complete is definitely in effect. Your thoughts on this impression and more importantly your estimate of the simple NAV of the company? I see about $76 mill assets minus about $51 mill liabilities for a NAV of about $25 mill against a market cap of about $10 mill. Many thx!
