Q: Peter; With Harper closing the barn door on oil sand takeovers do you see companies with diversified assets, including oil sands, ( I.e.PWT), spinning out their oil sands to make them still either an acquirer or being available for local takeovers/mergers ? Thanks.

Q: http://us.rd.yahoo.com/finance/external/reuters/SIG=12hs3vndm/*http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/12/13/canada-oilprice-idUSL1E8ND98S20121213?type=companyNews&feedType=RSS&feedName=companyNews&rpc=43
The increase in US oil supply, coupled with the decrease in demand and pipelines issues, paints a sorry picture for the oil sands. Both big and small Canadian producers will likely suffer in the short and medium term, until some meaningful new outlet takes place. Additional Canadian production in the coming year will further exacerbate the problem. Yet, all this is likely to be resolved with time. Some producers with upgraders, like COS,
might be better off, but most, whether it be CNQ, SU or IMO, will be affected. The months ahead might not be rosy. Would you simply advise staying the course, or transitioning for regular accounts or RRSP accounts into other traditional stocks ?

Q: Merry Christmas Peter to you and the team at 5i and continuing success in 2013. LNV? Longview is on a relentless trip south and its latest status report is middling at best. Is the slide overdone through tax loss selling or has this outfit disappointed to the point the stock should be dumped?

Q: I purchased ECA two weeks ago and the share price has gone down 5% since my purchase. Now with the Petrochina deal in the works, how do you think it will affect the price (short term and long term)? ECA is 10% of my portfolio and I also hold CNQ and TOU, also each 10%. I am wondering if I should be bailing on ECA or if there is some confidence in this stock? Thank you for your suggestions and advice and Seasons Greetings to you and the Team!

Q: Hi Peter,
What are your thoughts on Renegade Petroleum? Also, should one buy into Canadian Phoenix Resources or straight into Renegade as I do not really understand the deal between the two. Who would be the better buy if any. Tickers are RPL and CXP.
Thanks.

Q: Peter,

I am really perplexed with PSN. With one bad qurater, do you think their business model has completely failed. Is it because there were no barriers to entry in this area and others have jumped in and took it from under their nose. What about their present customers? The market seems to be discounting this as something which is not even going to be a 10 PE stock. Based on your earlier advice in a couple of the responses, you recommended holding the stock and not selling as there might be a year end rally after the tax loss selling is over. If the average price is around $4 is there still risk it might go to less than $3 or even more. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Q: With the announcement that CNOOC was being allowed to acquire Nexen, I would have expected the Nexen shares to move to CNOOC’s offer price of $27.50, but as of Monday afternoon, the shares high is $26.67. Why are the shares not trading at $27.50? That is the price I hope to sell at. Thanks … Cal
