Q: Any reasons about the big 12%+ drop in SP and almost 800K in volume today (normal trading is about 300K in volumes)? Thanks.

Q: I am down $6,200.00 on TVE.
Is this a hold? do you see a recovery or should I move on? I currently own 7 other energy stocks.

Q: Alberta oil-sands companies are ramping up their output to prepare to fill the expanded TransMountain export pipeline. Seems this should open up good investment opportunities. Can you suggest any stocks to consider?
Q: Hi Peter, can I get your view on QEC and any reason for the up tick today. Is there hope for this company. Thanks, Nick
Q: What is keeping TOU at these prices? I would like to buy some shares but can't see its value at present gas prices. Is it that we are presently experiencing winter in North America. Should one chase the price or wait for a pull back? At what price would 5i feel is a good entry?
Thank you
Thank you
Q: Hi,
I am wanting to start a position int TOU but need to raise the cash. Below is where I am thinking of raising the cash.
I have positions in the following:
ENB 6.35 % ( I do not want to sell)
SU 1.33% ( Sell Full position)
TRP 1.13 % (Sell Full Position)
That leaves me with KEY at 4.22% and PPL at 2.78% To get my 5% weighting in TOU I can decide on whether to sell PPL or KEY.
Your thoughts? Does it make sense?
Jimmy

Q: Hi folks. I am very happy overall with how my portfolio is doing, due in large part to 5i. Thank you. However I do have one dog, which keeps hitting new lows. The good news is that it pays a nice dividend, and I only have a 1/3 postition. But I am tired of watching it sink... now down 47%. What are your thoughts... should I cut it loose? Unfortunately it's in my RRIF. David

Q: Dear 5i team.
Please explain the differences between these two etfs for O&G exposure. Do you lean more to one vs the other?
The 8 listed CO's you suggested earlier today as a possible DIY version, how would you rank them in terms of risk/reward assuming oil prices stay elevated or increases?
(CNQ SU WCP TVE TOU XOM PSX CVX)
Thanks for your help.

Q: It finally seems possible that Canada could ship some LNG off the west coast of British Columbia this year. I would like to gain exposure to the LNG complex in Canada by investing in a basket of shippers, producers and exploration companies. Ideally the list would contain some strong dividend payers as well as some companies that focus on growth. What would you suggest?

Q: Hi,
In your answer to Jerry today (11-01-24) you had mentioned that you prefer ETFs like XEG and ZEO for the O&G sector play. Thank you.
If I want to avoid MERs and willing to put together a group of large/mid cap oil companies (not Gas) what companies would you recommend? About 5 to 8 names would be fine.
Also, why doesn't HXE as an ETF get the "love and respect" not only from you but from others in the financial media? Is there something inherently wrong with HXE?
Appreciate your response.

Q: BEPC seems to have a dividend history of about 3 years so i find it hard to know circumstances under which they'd lower it but i assume it could include climate related factors. BAM on the other hand looks to have reduced (or adjusted due to a spinoff or restructuring, etc) their dividend in 2007, 2014, 2015 and 2020. Then in 2023, it increased by 128%. As the Brookfield name seems to have a lot of cash, it appears that it might be hard to predict when the BEPC dividend could be cut. Would you please guide on how to assess the sustainability of dividend payments for BEPC? Do you think there is much risk of the present dividend being cut? Thanks for your usual market wisdom.
Q: More questions on BEPC
When it launched, it grew rapidly from 07/2020 to 01/2021, then it began a steady decline which seems to have abated in 09/2023. Are there specific reasons that you know of for its 6 month climb and the following 31 month decline? And do you know of the reason(s) for its gradual climb from 09/2023 to today, which looks like the second longest climb since it was launched? I would think there’d be a story but maybe its only known to BAM. I read once in the G&M that one of the downsides of owning Brookfield companies was the complexity of ownership and the difficulty sometimes in understanding the attribution of consequences among the firms.
On 5 Dec/23 you were asked for your top 3 utility pics and replied with FTS, BEPC, H. Would the 3 be the same today and would the order be different?
Many thanks and please serve yourself and the credits -- i don't seem to use them up fast enough !

Q: Another question regarding Martin Pelletier's Financial Post article about using oil to hedge against possible serious geopolitical events:
Would HUC work in this scenario? Please suggest at least three other Canadian-listed oil ETFs that could also work.
Thanks.

Bank of Nova Scotia (The) (BNS)
Q: I am overweight in financials with BNS, TD, SLF, POW, Visa and underweight in Utilities. I was thinking of letting POW go. Thoughts on this?
For Utilities, I looked at TA with its very low P/E but it is still stuck in non-renewables at the moment. Thoughts on this? What utility (ies) would you suggest?
I am just asking for thoughts/suggestions.
Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Q: Would you be able to provide information on which companies are expected to benefit the most from exporting their natural gas through the west coast LNG? What is the expected timing for this benefit to show up in their financial results?
Thank you
Thank you
Q: As per Martin Pelletier's article in the Financial section of this morning's National Post, I believe that oil (and/or oil & gas) will be a good hedge against general political and market turmoil this year. Would PDBC be a good alternative?
Q: Peter
You received a question about Tourmaline exporting gas to western Canada LNG facilities. They are a partner of Rockies LNG group which is trying to do just that: rockieslng.com

Q: Good morning. I've held NPI for a number of years and recent weakness has brought prices down to my cost base. A new analyst report from National Bank considers the stock to be undervalued and I'm considering increasing my holdings. I already own BEP.UN.? Your opinion on a price rebound for NPI.
Thanks.
Thanks.
Q: Hi 5i,
A question regarding TOU:
I've reviewed its website - very impressive and informative by the way! - and can't find any indication that TOU intends to send gas to the Canadian west coast for export as LNG. All gas it markets for LNG export seems to go through the US to the east coast or the Gulf.
I'm wondering if I understand this correctly and, if so, why wouldn't TOU take advantage of west coast LNG facilities in Canada and is it missing out by not doing so? (I know the TOU management is very smart so if they don't send gas to our west coast there's no doubt good reason - but I don't know what it might be ...).
Thanks for any insight you're able to provide.
Peter
