Really appreciate what you guys do! I am a bit overweight to oil infrastructure and maybe Alberta centred companies. Do you think that given the oil majors seem to be selling their oil sand assets that is a sign that the future does not look too rosy in regard o more projects and more oil output in the oil sands going forward? A 2nd question: I hold equal weights of Inter Pipeline and Gibson energy and was going to sell one of these to reduce my oily assets. Looking at a 2 year time frame which stock would you keep?
Q: Peyto has been in a relentless downtrend for at least the last year and yet it is supposedly one of the lowest cost producers. Is it time to bail on this stock as the natural gas price continues to languish with no relief in sight and oil price not much better? Thank you.
Q: Hi team, Cameco is in a space of its own I guess. What would it take for this stock to move up again. I have a 1% position in it with a 50% loss in it but in no rush to sell it. I don't mind holding it, would it be worth adding to it for a long term, very long term position. Thanks, Nick
Q: I understand that HCLP is a US stock, but I was hoping you could shed some light on future growth for this company .I have heard nothing but good things on outlook going forward.
Q: Hi Peter and Staff
I have a very small weighting in oil and gas and would like to increase it slightly with 1 more name. The two that I own so far are PEY and VET . If I will own 3 for a long term hold ,total return, dividends and capital gains, are those two fine to be 2 of the 3.
If so, please recommend one of the following with your reasoning to add. If you would drop PEY or VET in order to have 2 of the ones listed below, please advise
Q: I recently saw a reference to Ensign Energy Services having some 2 million short sales, representing a 300 day trade supply. Where can one find data for short sales of this and other companies?
Thank you.
Q: I would like to top up one of these 4 stocks and would appreciate your opinion on best buy at this time. Please rank best to worst with an explanation.
Thanks for the great advice.
Q: I recall reading that ConoccoPhillips will be able to start selling their ~200 million shares in Cenovus sometime this November? Is that correct? If yes, do you anticipate this triggering a significant decrease in the share price?
Q: I have been reviewing HNL's financials and I find it difficult to determine the company's cash and cash equivalents at the end of Q2. I am concerned about the solvency of the company, its ability to continue the dividend and its prospects given the Alberta political and general sector risks. May I please have your insight.
With appreciation
Q: I own VET and am considering adding to it, mainly for the 5.6% dividend, but also for some growth in this beaten up sector. The Globe and Mail had an article the other day, "France bids VET adieu ...." Should this cause me to NOT add to VET, or is the 2040 deadline too far in the future to have much negative impact on VET?
Q: If you were still managing money, which oil and gas stocks would be the first ones you would put in your portfolio. I never seem to get in at the right time on oil and gas stocks and would like to buy low and sell high, not buy when they already have had a big run which I tend to do. Thanks so much.
Q: What dynamics are driving the strength this morning? I own them both and opted for prorated cash for my Veresen shares in a TFSA with those details posted in an NR Friday.
Q: I am thinking of adding a small position (2%) in the energy services sector for my balanced portfolio to bring total energy sector exposure to 15%. Pason Systems is debt free, gives a decent yield of 3.6% and seems interesting as a mid size company while waiting for an uptick in the energy sector. It has not been discussed much in the Q&A. Or would you consider High Arctic Energy Services, currently in your growth portfolio, to be still a better match than Pason for a balanced portfolio despite the much smaller size?
