Q: This whole business about how the distribution is paid has got me confused. I bought BEP in my $us investorline account. Even though I bought it with the ticker BEP, it shows up on my transactions as BEP.UN. I phoned BMO investorline to confirm that there would be no currency exchange for the distributions when I purchased the stock. It does not show any conversion in my transaction history but I called today to confirm Again after reading the Q & A comments. I reside in Canada but my broker says the interest is paid in $US and there is no currency exchange. Am I missing something?
Q: Hi - With the recent pullback in many stocks, have any of your favourites dipped in price enough that you would be advising clients to hop on board. Totally understand that this is just guessing but hoping that a few jump out at you. No need to consider KYC factors in your response. Many thanks!
Q: Stocks in your model portfolios. TNC - when is this takeover going to be completed? It seems like it is taking a long time.
ITC - this stock is the majority of the time under $2.00 and for the short period of time that it goes above $2.00, everyone hits the sell button and it goes back below $2.00. Should I be hitting the sell button the next time it gets over $2.00 because it is the worst performing stock in my portfolio. PEO - also has over the last two months been another under-performer and so should I get out of it? Thank you for your good service Dennis.
Q: I own everything in the Balanced Equity portfolio except the following: AEM, CLS, AND CSU. I have cash available from the DH buy-out. Which of these or any other stocks in your coverage universe would you recommend based on current valuation and outlook?
Q: I have some cash in a Margin Account (most holdings are from 5i Balanced Portfolio) and also some in a Rif (most holdings from the Income Portfolio). Could you suggest 2-3 selections from these portfolios for deploying the cash . Many thanks.
Q: I have repatriated my holdings from a full service broker and now using a self directed account to manage the portfolio.
I wish to construct an Income Porfolio and a Balanced Portfolio look a like. To that end can you list the first five holdings from each portfolio that you would be first to acquire in, order of preference if possible?
Thanks
Q: Hi, I took a position in Open Text @$45 after release of recent quarterly results. The stock has been weak since and down 15% now. It has also not followed the general strength in the Technology sector and traded lower even when its peers KXS, CSU, DSG etc have gained in value. Analysts seem to be of view that stock is undervalued and market is not recognizing its strong recurring revenue base and expected growth from recent acquisitions.
Can you help me understand, why stock has been so weak and if a recovery is expected in next 6-12 months? I also own KXS, CSU,CGI and SYZ in Tech sector in fairly large quantities. For me it's a a question of capital allocation and find better opportunities. Thanks for your insight.
Q: My tech sector comprises OTEX & KXS.
KXS has done very well this past year whereas OTEX is now back where it was at that time. It seemed to be on a losing trend before it acquired COVS - which only seemed to make it worse. What's your opinion, where do you think it might be heading? Anything positive to say? Your advice very much appreciated.
Q: Hello,
My wife has $45K in her RRSP and would like to invest it in stocks, she is 46 years old and we would like to use stocks from your balanced portfolio, how many and which ones would you recommend?
Q: I currently own both of these companies. I'm planning on adding to one. Which would be your first choice for a long term hold {3 to 5 years} balancing some safety with reasonable growth.
Q: Is it possible to quantify the impact of the Nissan contract? The news release didn't include any financial details, but one would presume that Nissan's worldwide supply chain is substantial. Nissan's decision may also expose Kinaxis to an even broader international business audience. Nissan also said they "see this as a long term relationship between our two companies." I have a 1/3 position currently, as a much lower price. Also considering the recent pullback, would you step in for another 1/3 or more at this time?
Q: I have small positions in High Arctic Energy Services and Trevali Mining as well as little idle cash in the TFSA. Which of the two would you recommend I add? Or is it better to get rid of one and have a full position in the other? If so, which one?
As always, appreciate your advice.
