Q: I find the negative news seems to always carry more weight than the positive. So on the flipside of the TD downgrade this week here is the positive news on CRH.RBC upgrades CRH to outperform today and on Monday Canaccord restated buy ratings stating the correction for the reimbursement change is over done.I'll also mention the analyst from TD that downgraded CRH is ranked as having a 37% success rate and is ranked 4026 out of 4601 analysts. It is crazy to me that a downgrade from an analyst with such a spotty record would impact the stock so much but I know its due to the current negative sentiment with reimbursement changes. This is just an fyi for those bothered by CRH's recent losses.

Q: This is in response to johns question today about the downward trend of savaria and photon. I would also lump GUD in with these. It has seemed like a 5i favourite for a while but is basically at the same leve it was last November.
You told John that 3-4 months isn't long enough for these names, how long would you recommend as a minimum (I am ok with years of needed)?

Is there anything in their news to make you very confident that the momentum will change directions?

And, do you feel comfortable adding to these 3 at tofays levels (or is it likely just holding on for a few % over the next year and they've already used up their momentum?) (I know this is kind of asking you to crystal ball, but I'm hoping for educated insight).
Thanks!

Q: I need to add to the financial sector of my portfolio. I own 3 stocks in this sector, a full position in BNS and would like to add to SLF or ECN. I was going to add to ECN but began to wonder if ECN would be negatively impacted by rising interest rates especially with their debt being over 2x or would they simply pass on their increased expenses to their customer? Not sure how much competition they have in that space. Thank you in advance for your expertise.

Q: Hello Peter and All,

I look after my daughter’s TFSA and Investment Acct. She is 7% under weight in Tech with holdings of: (OTEX 2.3%), (PUR 1.4%) plus ( QQQ and other ETFs provide 4.3% Tech ), total portfolio, 8% Tech. Money will not be required for about ten years.

To bring her up to 15 % total would you suggest buying KXS plus add to OTEX and PUR, or would you use a different combination such as CLS instead of PUR.
Many thanks.

Q: I am retired and living on dividend income. 80% of my funds are in my income portfolio, which is focused on dividends and yield (approx. 20 stocks) and meet my income needs.
So I am considering investing the remaining 20% of my funds in your balanced portfolio for more capital appreciation. How would you recommend I go about this? If I also mirror your balanced portfolio, I would have 40+ stocks in my portfolio.
Would you therefore recommend 5 stocks that look most attractive at current valuations and invest equally in each?

Q: Hi all,

You recently had this Q and A reply:
Q: Could you please provide your opinion on your 2 best stock ideas for the near term {6-12 mths}. Thanks Valter

5i Research Answer:
Short terms are very hard to call.
We would suggest Methanex MX and Photon PHO.

My question is what catalyst you see for each stock that make them your favourite ideas for the next year?
