Q: Hi 5i,
Sorry to belabour the SHOP discussion. An acquaintance of mine in a recent discussion raised some concerns about Shopify that I wanted to run past you for a second opinion. His concerns in a nutshell are:
-excessive stock compensation for insiders
-the quality of the loans being made to start-up businesses
-Shopify’s $1B of cash and marketable securities suggests a form of "management self-dealing"
-operating cash flow turned negative in the latest quarter
In your opinion are these concerns warranted and are they sufficient to justify a negative opinion of the company.
Many thanks.
Michael
Q: Do you think Crius share price sells off as natural gas prices move lower, in the sense that it may be more difficult to sell fixed rate contracts when natural gas prices are depressed. Could this be why Crius shares have moved lower?
Q: Peter and His Wonder Team
I have not given up on CLS either. I have been following the company for some time and waiting for a good entry point. For several reasons its momentum is down and technically it is breaking down. I guess it looks like a falling knife...I notice it's TP has been lowered to $12.50. I know you do not give predictions on price. So I am wondering what your thoughts are about it's direction and momentum. I know investors over react in both directions. Do you think it is looking over sold? Do you think this $12.50 might put in a floor? Better to wait a week or two until the dust settles? Would buying now be classified as a small contrarian play on a value stock?
Thanks for your invaluable expertise!

Q: in your previous answer to me you said you cannot fault knight for not doing a deal.
my question is can you fault them for raising money over a year ago at about 10 dollars, diluting the stock and then doing nothing with the money, this to me is ripping off shareholders, totally unacceptable. i think we all being taken to the cleaners.dave
Q: Hi 5i
With the decline in Kinaxis share price going into earnings tomorrow, would a new purchase at $65 level be a move you would make or would you waiting until release be more appropriate.
By the looks of the volume type, it is us small investors who are dumping the stock share by share.
Q: Not to add to several Shopify questions this morning, but I assume that the Citron shorting is significant enough to affect markets. So what, if anything, is know about the volume, trigger prices and holding periods of these shorts? Would it be reasonable to think the stock will be more volatile during the period when these shorts are held, and possibly see upside trend as shorts get close to lapsing?
Q: How serious could Norfolk Southern's lawsuit against Boatright Railroad Products be for SJ? Globe's Report on Business this morning says Boatright sold 5 mn defective ties to Norfolk between 2009 and 2014 - all installed, some on bridges. I believe SJ bought Boatright in June 2014. Are buyers, in this case SJ, protected by the terms of acquisition agreements from negligence and fraud that occurred prior to acquisitions? What about damage to SJ's reputation? I hope SJ not only comes out blameless on this, but takes strong steps to "underline" their commitment to quality.
Thank you.
Edward
Q: Hi,
It appears that SHOP beat on earnings and revenue. It is down 10% on the open. Was there any concerns flagged in the conference call or not all concerns addressed from short report? If no concerns do you think it is a good time to add more? My weight in Shop is around 2-2.5% range?
Thanks,
Kerri
Q: SYZ finally spent some of their money on an acquisition a couple of weeks ago and the stock ticked up a bit. What will it take to really move the stock price. I have a full position and am content waiting but sometimes it's a very slow wait.
Q: The shares continue to drift down with a yield approaching 10%, usually something that I have, in the past, viewed with some concern. I wanted to see how previous earnings were trending and to my surprise there are, at least in my sources, no earnings posted for year end 2016, nor for the first and second quarters of this year. They were scheduled for reporting in March, May, and August. What is happening? Why no results? And is this connected with what is happening with the shares?
Q: Been in SIS since 6 Thanks to you. Enjoying the ride and how Company has Grown. You were right on for the last acquisition that ended up being for Span America.
Given the Situation that Savaria sits at now. Where do you see their Plans moving ahead. Plus any other small cap companies like how SIS was couple of years ago that you like right now. Thanks. Barry.
Q: I would like to add to my industrials and can't decide between these two companies. I know you like both. Is there anything that suggests one over the other? I am wondering if given I have enough healthcare already, is that enough to influence me to go with NFI as it is the "purer" industrial play?
Appreciate your insight (and really looking forward to the new website!)
Q: 5i is my best source for Canadian investment information so I naturally turn here for a (possibly) difficult-to-answer question.
A guest on today’s BNN Market Call mentioned as an alternative to Shopify a small, growing company that sounded like “Hop-spot” or “Hot-spot”, but didn’t show or indicate a stock symbol. I searched for the symbol using a range of what I thought are plausible alternative spellings but turned up nothing.
With your encyclopedic grasp of what’s available to Canadian investors, could you point me in the right way to this (probably small-cap) stock?
