Q: Dear 5i:
Multipart Balanced Equity Portfolio question (please deduct credits as appropriate):
I have roughly $12000 to contribute to my RRSP (2018 contribution) right now, which four or five companies should I put this money in? Please exclude TECK, CSU, BNS, MX, PBH, and SIS in your response since I have full weights in these companies. I would much rather just add to positions to bring the weights of each position closer to 'equal weight', but this would involve averaging down (which 5i doesn't generally endorse). However, you have commented previously in the past that any company currently in the BE portfolio is 'buyable today'. So would averaging down be reasonable if one is only considering BE portfolio companies (for example, would be happy to average down on CLS/GUD if you think this is a reasonable move). I would far prefer to avoid individual security concentration risk by adding to other positions rather than trimming a winning position (regret trimming TOY, for example). Please provide your thoughts and guidance, and thanks as always.

Q: Boyd seems to be on quite a run here but i have seen no news and they don't report till later this month. given the impacts from the hurricanes, my understanding is that Boyd was anticipating a softer quarter here. Have i missed something - generally this one does run up prior to announcing and then tends to sell off after earnings. Given your views of the company, is this what is happening here.?

Q: Hello 5i
I see you continue to be positive on RHT and recommend it at all near term prices.

With an effort to protect against downside movement in holdings owned, one of the technical rules I am working to utilize is to not purchase investments with declining stock prices.

What are your thoughts on buying RHT here ($2.23) and with the awareness of a price that appears to be undergoing a short term technical pullback. (potentially magnitude may be 1/3 of the rise)

Appreciate the service and your thoughts.
Dave

Q: News of RRX announcing Strategic Review Process announced today. Last time the company was in play the shares traded between $10-12 but no buyer was found. At this point in time, what are your thoughts for a reasonable takeover valuation. 8x 2018 cash flow minus debt?

Q: Over early morning java, I read in the TO Star that TOY is acquiring GUND. The share price for TOY is like stable, aka no dramatic move, up or down. The purchase of GUND from a private entity seems to be viewed by the street as a yawn. What is your take of this buy of GUND by a favourite position of mine, TOY (thanks to 5iR)? ....Tom

Q: Thank you for your recent article. It prompted me to finally free myself of some terminal losers (CRH, PHM, VMD, DBO). Long overdue.
I would appreciate your opinion on whether I should also sell BOS, KBL and PLI rather take the long ride to the bottom like I did with Nortel.

Q: Earnings release looked fine to me, thus I stepped in on the pull back to now hold a 7% position. Divi is next week, which I will take and I expect ET to move back up into its regular trading range based on this earnings release. When that happens I will sell off half of my current position. Question, what do you think of earnings release and my short term strategy?
