Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Two questions:
1) Of the two, which one would you be more optimistic about for the medium term (3-5 yrs).
2) Which would you prefer to sell for a tax loss. (and not repurchase)

And a third question...
Regarding TSGI, the last report (06/18)had upgraded the rating to an A-. It has been a while...is it safe to assume that an updated report would see a downgrade?

Thanks.

Q: When I look at the latest Q&A from Feb. of 2019 on the CSU website Mark Leonard makes reference that it is difficult to find acquisition companies like CSU that have high ROIC but when Leonard did a screen for CSUs board he was able to find 6 companies out of 4000 with ROIC comparable to CSU. Any ideas how to screen for these companies or what companies Mr. Leonard might be talking about? Thx

Q: I am new to 5i but I hold many of your A & B -rated stocks, so I am trying to figure out what's happening with NFI and to decide whether to sell it at 20% loss or not. They had decent quarter and the stock was up during Wed massacre. Yet, it was down 6% yesterday (in neutral market) and down again today when everything is up. Do you have any idea what is going on? I have well diversified taxable portfolio with NFI at 3%, would you recommend holding, selling, or adding more?

Q: So, the goons over at Motley Fool Canada having been hyping up a recent Canadian tech IPO, with the usual comparisons to Amazon, Netflix and Shopify.

Travis over at Stock Gumshoe speculates that they're talking about LightSpeed POS (in this blog https://www.stockgumshoe.com/reviews/stock-advisor-canada/whats-the-shopify-2-0-teased-by-motley-fool-canada/), a company I was already familiar with thanks to your growth portfolio.

I'm was wondering if I could get your take on this enormous hype - obviously this is Motley's bread and butter, but since you just issued a report on Lightspeed back in June I'm curious.

Q: Top TFSA buy this week for 6k unused 2019 tfsa. A few names are getting beaten up, which of your balanced or income companies have been beaten down more then they deserve. short term buy opportunity with long term hold (5+ years). Asked a similar question for my un-registered account. This could be almost any of your names except for wsp who I am overweight already.

Q: Is there an overly compelling reason to own CCL.b today? Its missed earnings 4 out of the last 6 reports and in conjunction with its earnings misses the shares have topped out at $67 a few times since June 2017.

With its current earnings estimates, $2.85 in 2019 and $3.09, in 2020, against the backdrop of probability, how likely do you think CCL.b shares see a 10% increase within the next 12 months?

Thanks again.

John
