Q: Good day.

I am trying to justify in my mind, if I should continue to have my investments in individual equities or in etf's. I was wondering if you could help me decide.

Currently. I am fully vested in the Balanced Portfolio for the Canadian side of my investments.

When I compare the performance of the Balance portfolio and an ETF HXT which is TSX total return it looks like this:

Balanced HXT

1-year 1.98% 13.33 %

3- year 9.13% 11.48%

5 - year 6.92% 9.79%

Inception 14.22% 10 year 9.29%

This info was taken from the Scotiabank iTrade website effective May 29th and the Portfolio segment of 5i.

I realize the composition of the 2 are different, but nonetheless I look and see that if I put all of my Canadian portfolio into HXT I would be no worse off and have lots less to worry about and adjust.\

So, in consideration of the comparison I made above can you please help me with the case of why I should stay vested in the 5i balanced portfolio and what are the advantages of doing so vs going totally to an etf.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to your input.

Sheldon

Q: Please rank the following companies for long term holds in a TFSA, with a management rating for each. (10 being the best)

Also, I currently hold SHOP and CSU.. Do you feel LSPD and TOI overlap these larger companies too much to consider a position ?

Please suggest any other Canadian companies not listed for long term holds.

Thanks for everything! Cheers

Q: A few years ago I read Benjamin Graham's The Intelligent Investor. To make money in the stock market, one simple axiom he proposed was to buy a dollar's worth of a company for less than a dollar. Sangoma now has a P/B ratio of .43 so it would appear to be a perfect candidate to put Graham's axiom to work given a long enough time horizon. Notwithstanding the current poor market conditions for small-cap tech stocks, would you agree that today an investor can buy a dollar's worth of Sangoma for 43 cents?

Thank you as always for your answer.

Q: I have held TVE since about the beginning of the year, and its perfomance over that time has lagged many other competitors in its space. TVE is about a 2% position, and my total energy exposure is somewhere around 12% at this point. I read an earlier comment on this forum that TVE is slated to double its revenues in the upcoming year, which would make a strong case for hanging onto shares of this company.

Do you feel that remaining patient with TVE is the prudent measure, or is there another name with analogous characteristics within the energy producer space which would potentially be a more suitable vehicle in which to invest?

Q: These companies all seem to be at a premium to P/B ratios and have similar dividend yields and WSP is likely the company that is not a direct comparison within the group but all would be industrial based in my mind. Would you please rank your order of preference of the three for a three to five year timeframe. Thank you!

Q: I have a bit of cash to invest in my RRSP which (of course) has taken a beating but I am not losing sleep. I was going to add to BAM.A but then see that I am down 70% on SHOP. In my view SHOP has more upside but is there anything smelly there? If not should there be some insider buying at SHOP? Is there? What would you do?

Q: Hi All at 5i!!! DND has always been a confusing stock for me. I held it for a while and it got a vast amount of negative sentiment from the market , so I sold it. I have read a lot of conflicting opinions on it. So here I am seeking out your opinion. The straight goods....is it a good, stable stock to hold, well positioned for good future growth? Or are it’s prospects nebulous , dependent on (metaphorically speaking ) many stars aligning??? Looking forward to your reply, Cheers, Tamara

Q: I plan to sell these stocks for a tax loss and then buy them back after 30 days. Could you suggest a proxy stock that I could buy as a replacement for the 30 days
