Q: Would you recommend using investment money to help pay off a line of credit? That money would be coming from a tfsa. If so, from the list provided, please list the top 5 stocks in order that you would sell?

APPLE and MSFT would be sold at a loss.

Thanks for everything

Q: I previously sent this question (I thought) but I may have been timed out.

I have been involved in a few spinoffs over the past few years (Constellation, BAM x 2) with some to come (Danaher, Constellation). Generally, spin-offs are seen as profitable events but I am not sure of the best way to manage the outcome.

My problem is that the spinoff usually leaves me with a small number of shares of the new company. Given that these new enterprises usually do very well (I think this is a valid generalization) I have been reluctant to sell them. I see my options as: Buy more prior to the spin off as this provides for the greatest returns and leave me with 2 reasonable sized holdings; buy more of the new company after the split to bring it to a reasonable level in my portfolio; sell the shares despite the cost and re-invest in the original company to bring that value back to its original amount; or just leave as is.

in your experience, is one option better than the other in the long term? The sticking point for me is that I expect both companies to outperform due to the split but that may be a poor assumption.

Appreciate your insight.

Q: Hello All,

A strategy occasionally mentioned is to consider buying at 52 week highs because it suggests continuing upward momentum .

I am following a few names which keep rising however am loathed to buy at this time because of the possible threat of a market correction.

Would you be willing to suggest any companies that you would almost certainly be buying, into recent highs, despite the looming threat?

Thank you

Q: 1. What are your thoughts on Carlyle Secured Lending - CGBD ?
- I found this company by accident and was intrigued...
- I have a small position in an RRSP account
- Should I increase position or move on

2. Alimentation Couche Tarde - ATD
- I have a good position and have a gain of 40%+
- Going into this year of uncertainty, would you suggest Trim, Hold or Buy ?

3. Brookfield
- I am currently holding Brookfield via BN and BAM(spinoff)
- Should I increase my position in One or Both ?
- OR Sell One to buy more of the other ?

Wishing good health, happiness and prosperity to all for 2023!
Thanks,
M

Q: Hi 5i,

Is there an explanation somewhere as to the meaning of the % at the bottom right corner of the Income Model Portfolio? The headings are: Portfolio; Benchmark; Active. An explanation of each line in the chart would help me understand the relevance.

Thanks for the help.

Q: I must progressively restructurate a non-registrated portfolio, recovered in early 2022 for self-managing... Here are the percentage of each stock vs all portfolio, and also indications (+/-) if they are at a profit or at a loss on paper. stocks at profit are: BIP.UN (8% of portfolio), CM 5%, DIR. UN 3%, BIPC 1%, BCE 5%, ENB 2%, SGR.UN 1,5%. Stocks at a loss are: BN.PF.D (5% pf portfolio), TRP 1.5%, VET 1.2%.
My objectives are in order: stability, dividends, and some growth if possible.
Some stocks represent a probably too high percentage of the portfolio, I would not sell them “only to rebalance the portfolio” if they are still safe (to avoid non necessary capital gain tax), but I shall sell if they represent a risk. On the other hand, I would not sell stocks with a loss if they respond to my objectives.
I have already balanced a good part of this portfolio with ETF and a selection of stable dividend stocks. Those are the remaining stocks from the original portfolio..
Please give me suggestions for each stock according to objectives as : keep, sell, or sell partly. All of your comments are always greatly appreciated.
