Investment Q&A

Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.

Q: Can you recommend 3-5 choices for an RRSP investment. Can you confirm that one would generally choose less speculative investments or less risky investments within an RRSP, as one can not "harvest" a tax loss within an RRSP

Q: Good Morning. My mother (94 years old) is looking for a metals stock. She asked about Rus. I see it has been flat for a year (-2%). 5i seems to like STLC which is near a 52-w high and up about 60% over a year. I have Teck.b and it is near a 52-w high, so not sure about recommending that. I was thinking NTR (materials) may be a suggestion. Or what about FM as a new thought?

What would the experts at 5i suggest?

BTW, I suggested that she subscribe to 5i but she reminded me that she has never used a computer ... maybe lucky her!

Q: The US dollar seems to be heading lower. You think this might continue for the year?
What is the overall consensus?
Te Mexican peso already strengthened 7% in the last couple of weeks.
How could we play this theme?
Are there any companies you suggest which would benefit from a lower dollar?
Any currencies you think that would have a good upside?

Q: Hi Peter and Staff

Yesterday "D" asked a question about websites to find returns of various indexes and you provided a link for S&P, Nasdaq and TSX. The S&P link clearly said the returns quoted included dividends. Perhaps I missed it but did the other two state whether the returns included dividends.

I am not sure if this is a separate question but when the TSX index shows up on the tickers every day and whether it is up or down and yearly tsx indexes are compared , is it reasonable to assume that is a factored mathematical calculation based on size of companies and their prices over a certain period of time? Does it assume price only or that you re invested the dividends into more shares of those companies?
Thanks for all you do

Dennis

Q: Hello 5i,
I hold bep:us and bepc:us also bip:us and bipc:us. Is it worth trading in the bep:us for bipc:us and bep:us for bepc:us? Is there much advantage to do that? If so what is the most efficient way to do that?

Q: Can you provide 8 growth/total return names to initiate a position an add to overtime in the TFSA for a long term investor.

Feel free to rank using your assessment/analysis of a balance of performance/recovery, prospects, total return, etc. Sector diversification is not necessary. Mid to large caps (small caps only with high conviction).

$CAD/USD names (please include your favourite growth CDRs as well).

Q: Hi Peter, Ryan and 5i team,
It’s that time of year to contribute to our grandson’s RESP (age 9). After rebalancing and adding new money we can add two stocks to the portfolio. To broaden the sectors , we are looking at utilities, healthcare, and real estate. Could you please suggest a name in each sector .
Thank you for your opinion.
