Q: Good morning,
I own an equal amount of each of these stocks which have all dropped in the past year. Reading your answers, I plan to ride them out.
1) If I were to add to them, would you recommend an equal amount or would you favour one over the others?
2) Would I be better to leave them alone and add STN, AEM and TOU?

Q: In addition to your comment, I have a rule to follow very strictly my orders. At the open, it is open season for your trade if you do not want to control it. A good placement requires a little effort, also be aware that most "professional" traders enter the market around 10h30 to avoid the fog of your type of trade at the open... At the office you can use your phone to place a trade, better in my view.

Q: I need to invest in the health care sector to balance my portfolio. I'm retired but able to accept some risk. I would appreciate some growth and income from the sector. That being said, should I invest in Valeant, Johnson & Johnson or Gilead. OR would the 3 make a balanced basket of investments? Are there other investments in this sector that might meet my needs? As always, thanks in advance for your much appreciated advice.

Q: Hello, I own BEP.UN as per your portfolio but noticed the other two Brookfield companies look good BIP and BAM. Did you choose BEP because you feel it the strongest of the three or because id the sector? Would you recommend owning all three and if you had to narrow it down to two which would you choose? I like BEP because of the dividend. BIP also has a good dividend but BAM has a much smaller one.

Q: Hi,

My portfolio is low in consumer staples. ATD.B is the only stock I own in this sector. I owned loblaws in the past and due well on it but felt the p/e was too high do sold. Csn you suggest one or two holdings I could add to my portfolio for this sector, preferably ones with decent dividends?

I also have no health care exposure, can you recommend one or two names?

Q: My question concerns RIF withdrawals. Within my RIF portfolio, I have Canadian and U.S. equities, cash, corporate bonds - 2018. During the course of the year, I require about 75% of the minimum withdrawal to cover the expenses for the year. I generally withdraw the assets in-kind. I would like some advice as to what strategy I should use to determine what assets should be withdrawn.

Q: Hi Peter and team,

Could you please suggest several investments for a portion of a portfolio, in a non-registered account, where capital preservation and income (as frequently as yearly or more) are a priority?

It would be important to avoid the risk of losing capitol over a 5 year time frame. A distribution/interest/dividend/etc payment is also important for this investment.

With GIC rates being so low, I'm struggling with what to do.

Could you please recommend a few ideas which would yield more than a GIC while also minimizing risk and taking into account the tax implications of it being in a non-registered account.

Q: Hello Peter & Co,
I own CN.
I sold TFI in July (35% profit in 1 year) when it spiked after announcing its intention to acquire CSS. I also sold WTE in July (100% profit + dividends in 4 years) because of the poor outlook for coal.
I'm thinking of re-entering the trucking business: back with TFI? (perhaps I should not have sold it) or TMA? or MTL?
Seeking your guidance.

Q: Hello everyone,
I have a bit of cash hanging around and debating on either of the two above-mentioned stocks...I'm aware it's foolish to try and time the market; however, both stocks have an impending deadline for me:
1) ATD.b will drop, rise or flatline tomorrow based upon earnins report, hence the time factor;
2) SGy ex div is the 26th, once more the time factor...

Would like to know your input on both options.
