Q: Hello.

What would be the impact to Russel Metals if they experienced a decrease in demand for their Energy Products sector? Do you think management would 'adjust' well? Do you see this as a real risk?

Looking at their annual reports & their 3 main segments from 2005 to 2014, revenue has declined from Metals Service and Steel Distributions, while revenue from Energy Products has increased steadily from 23% of revenue in 2005 to 46% in 2014 (Q1-Q3).

Regards, David

Q: In your company reports, in the company report card summary you quote a value for 5 YR ROE. Please clarify if this is the average yearly ROE calculated over a 5 yr. period. If indeed this is an average I would suggest you add additional info as a single average number is next to useless. Ideally, the latest individual values for the past 5 years should be stated or, less at least the average with the min and max value.
Happy New Year to all,
Steve

Q: Happy New year 5i team!
I own Chemtrade in a non registered account having bought it for income without realizing how much of its "dividend" is actually interest. My thought is to transfer it to my TFSA. Since it will be a deemed sale anyway, is there a better stock in the materials sector that I should consider instead of Chemtrade, bearing in my mind that I own it for income. Many thanks for your continued valuable service.

p.s. Will we be able to track our number of questions when we post them?

Q: Hello,
I am learning about Preferreds and am wondering if you know of any websites or books that are a good starting point. Does anyone compile a lot of real-time data on the features of various issues, brand new issues, etc? Thanks.

Q: Would you consider this company to be a good buy at today's prices?
Is it well managed; and does the dividend appear to be more "safe" than at risk for a cut?

Thank you and Happy New Year.

Q: Hi 5i team,
I'm thinking of dollar cost averaging either my Canadian Oil Sands holdings (purchased in 2008 for an astonishing $39/share) or Goldcorp (bought in early 2012 for cringeworthy $47/share). My time horizon is 3-5 years. I have similar weighting in my portfolio for both oil/gas vs mining sectors. Both these battered stocks pay dividends. Which of these 2 would you suggest I choose now to dollar cost average? I'm working under the assumption neither company looks like they will become insolvent and declare bankruptcy.

thanks

Q: Hello Peter and team,

I am getting ready to make my 2015 TFSA contribution on Jan 2nd, and with some cash in that account I would like to invest in one or two growthy stocks. What are your top 5 suggestions for a TFSA at this time (holding period is 3 years minimum).

Also can you list your top 3 TFSA suggestions in the Information Technology and the Health Care sectors.

Please rank your choices highest to lowest.

Happy New Year,

Paul J.

Also, once an investor joins the wait list for a review, is there a rough estimate of timing?

Q: Happy Holidays! All the best to you and your families! I currently have a 1.5% weighting in Catamaran and would like to slowly bring it to a full position in my portfolio. Do you feel today's price is a good time to start adding? Also, do you have any suggestions for a cyber security stock in Canada or the US, something like PANW? I have long time frame and high tolerance for risk.
