Q: Hi Peter,
My portfolio is poorly diversified and I am working on trying to correct this. Can you give me a general guideline on what percentage you would allocate to each sector for a well balanced portfolio. thank you for a great service. Clare.

Q: Hi,
Great appearance on bnn!!
For a portfolio management approach I understand the importance of setting position limits being 5%, 10% and trimming positions if they breach a limit. However, holding a company for years can result in a position being 20% of a portfolio etc.
What argument can you make to sell or trim positions in a good company that pays a dividend of 4%+ but would be too large of a weighting your intended position limits.
Bottom line question: I know some people have a certain great stock that might be 20%+ in their portfolio. Those are difficult to sell/trim when they pay a nice dividend too.
Thanks

Q: SPRYLOGICS 0.58 cents is down over 20% the past month. Do you think it will recover?

On my watchlist, PTS 18.21 up 30% in one month. URTHE CAST 3.17 up 40% in one month. FTP 4.15 up 84% in one month. Are some of the better performers on my watchlist. Do they all look like they've gotten farther upside?

Thank you very much,
Dennis

Q: Hi 5i:

I am in the process of boosting the fixed income portion of my portfolio (knowing full well that nothing interesting is really fixed). I hold a preferred share ETF, a convertible share ETF, some short term laddered bond ETFs, and a high yield bond ETF. I'd like to add an income fund, and I'm more concerned about not losing capital than getting a lot of growth. AW lost less than BPF during the recession, and though BPF has gained more since, AW has done better from pre to post recession. I'd appreciate your advice as to which (if any) of these two to pick. Given my goals, do you have a better suggestion? As always, thanks for your great advice.

Q: Hello,

I sat in on a presentation by Jeremy Siegel and his view was/is that demographics combined with supply and demand are playing a large part in interest rates staying lower for longer. With such a large segment of the population searching for yield, it has pushed interest rates down, and will keep them down while the boomers go through old age. Obviously there are many combined reasons for why interest rates are low, but I would like your thoughts on this view and his belief that interest rates will stay relatively low for an extended period of time.

Thanks

Robert

Q: Hello Peter and Co:
Great job on BNN yesterday. I have 2 questions so charge me for 2 no problem.

I own PEY in the Oil & Gas sector, total sector exposure (including sector exposure in my US ETFs) is 4.5%.

I own ALA, IPL and PPL also Oil & Gas but I consider them utilities, total sector exposure (including sector exposure in my US ETFs) is 7.2%.

Question 1: Is replacing PEY with WCP a good trade?

Question 2: Between ALA, IPL and PPL which one is worth keeping?

Thanks for everything, I've learned a ton of stuff from you over the last 2 years. cheers

Q: Is che.un considered 'materials' or 'industrials'? I'm thinking of selling it to buy some HLF? Does HLF have better growth potential? It's for a registered account, so growth is key.

Thanks in advance!

Q: I just started to buy walmart via a drip I have over 33% in U.S. stocks. I am low with consumer cyclical (only have AYA). That's why Wmt interested me. Should I refocus purchases on Cdn consumer cyclical since I've got enough U.S. stocks? If so which stock would you recommend? Hopefully one with a share purchase plan that allows me to buy over time.

Q: Hi Peter, I have been "dabbling" in the stock market with equities and options over the last 20 years. While I have gained some knowledge, I would like to develop the ability to manage my own portfolio over the next couple of years as I approach retirement (in 5 years). Can you recommend some readings and courses / seminars / etc I can take to enhance my knowledge of equities, derivatives and portfolio management.

Thank you

Q: I have an account where Intel has grown to over 5% weighting. I also hold Stantec, but its weighting is under 3%.
I am considering selling some Intel to buy some more Stantec to get them both around 4%. Since STN also trades on the NYSE, I thought I would avoid the currency exchange and just purchase it in the US.

Does this seem like a reasonable move?

Thanks.
