Q: Hi Folks
Doing a bit of house cleaning (a bit late I might add).
I propose selling cus, hnl, tdg, sgy and buying nfi, pbh, eif, and csh.un.
I would appreciate your opinion on these moves .

I gather from the various 5i reports and the Q's & A's that my Equity holdings are quite decent; but I'm not sure about the sector weights and would like to have your opinion on the split.

Energy Infra (5.1%) ENB,KEY
Financials (12.0%) BNS,CXI,EFN,SLF,TD
Health/Pharma (7.7%) CRH,CXR,GUD,PHM,RX,VRX
Ind/Infra/Transp (8.7%)
Material (5.2%) CHE,SJ
Tech (22.0%) CSU,DSG,ESL,GIB,MDA,OTC
RE/Telco/Util (11.8) BCE,BEP,CIG,FSV,TCN
By the way, these holdings' (Oct 16, 2015) ytd total return is 11.8% with a beta of 0.5. Even though I got hammered in the Health sector, I made up for it in the Consumer, Tech and RE

Q: Can I take a tax loss selling a stock at RBC direct and buy the same at CIBC investors edge inside 30-days? Both accounts are margin accounts in joint names?

Q: What are your current thoughts on RUS? I’ve owned it for many years. Largest holding the avg cost is below $15. However, in one account the avg cost is above the current market and I’m thinking of averaging down. They announced that they are redeeming $174.34M of 7.75% debentures (all). What does this do to their overall debt situation? “The redemption of the debentures will be financed through Russel Metals' existing credit facility.”

I assume the market thinks that a dividend reduction is in the works. Currently yielding 7.21%.

This has been a good holding and the management was/is well respected. What am I missing? China syndrome!

Q: More a question about strategy. It seems my discount broker charges me around 2.5% for the exchange conversion when I buy a US stock, and probably the same for dividend payments and sells. Is there any way I can reduce these charges? Thank you.

Q: Hi Peter,

Can I get your opinion on the $1.16-billion offer to acquire French aluminum components maker Montupet SA in a deal that expands Linamar’s global reach and customer base. The market doesn't seem to like it because the stock is down today.

Correct me if I'm wrong but LNR earnings are growing +30% yoy yet the valuation is only 10x 2015 estimates. I know the market is full of fear but this stock screams bargain to a GARP investor like Peter Lynch.

I currently don't have any financial stocks in my portfolio and feel that now be a good time to do so .
I'm considering efn , sbny and the much larger bns . If I was to invest in one or two in this sector would it be one or two of the above or something different ? Assume a 3-5 year time frame .

Q: HI Peter,
I understand that the patient home story was a foolish mistake by the executives, but do you think it deserves a drop from @2 down to 60 cents, especially when the dust has settled? With respect to Nobilus Health, the article from midas letter clearly shows the intent of the Alpha writer but there seems to be no recourse from SEC. In the future, what chance does an average investor have when there are folks trying to manipulate the stock without repercussions. This is not an easy issue, but any comments would be appreciated as it seems the small cap space is just to vulnerable regardless of how well the companies are doing. Also, do you have a link to check shorts on a stock. Lastly, Constellation is on a roll without much news. Any comments. Thanks again.

Q: GIL-Quite a lot of insider selling especially by the co's ceo since Sep 1. On Oct 6 BNN reported that as a result of either Trans-Pacific Partnership or IMF downgrade of Canada's growth( to 1% from 1.5%) & global growth,the following 4 stocks are victims:-1)CCL.B(was down to $183.49 & closed @ $169.23 on Oct 9) 2)GIL $38.72 & $39.13 on Oct 9) 3)ITP & 4)DH. Q: I see that SPB has a bought deal of common stock to cover the CUS acquisition. When I look at this comp. I see very inconsistent earnings, huge debt., very low ROE and crazy Payout Ratio. Unfortunately I own 2500 shares of CUS and will be getting a co. with a poor balance sheet and poor fundamentals: price taker subject to commodity prices like CUS. I realize it is too early to do the math; but, how can they sustain their dividend and make consistent dependable profits?

Q: I bought this stock for safety waiting for oil to stabilize so I could get back in. I am even incl. the dividend - so, treading water so to speak. According to my trading site CIBC IE they never seem to publish Q EPS? I know they are expanding in the USA - so, probably incr. costs and no special dividends this year - has been a common practice. Any info you could give me on this co. would be appreciated. Trying to decide whether to keep as a diversifier or sell?
