Q: Did you have the opportunity to listen to this company's conference call yesterday and if so what are your thoughts on the sudden resignation of the Chief Financial Officer. How do you think that this event will affect the company going forward? Thanking you in advance. Brian

Q: If you had to buy either AYA or CXR tomorrow for one year, which would you choose? If the time period was 3 years would your answer change?
Q: Can you tell me CBL's book value per share? And the dividend payout ratio?
Do you see it being taken private like CIBC has speculated? Thanks.

Q: Dear 5i
I currently don't have any financial stocks in my portfolio and feel that now be a good time to do so .
I'm considering efn , sbny and the much larger bns . If I was to invest in one or two in this sector would it be one or two of the above or something different ? Assume a 3-5 year time frame .
Thank you
Bill C.

Q: HI Peter,
I understand that the patient home story was a foolish mistake by the executives, but do you think it deserves a drop from @2 down to 60 cents, especially when the dust has settled? With respect to Nobilus Health, the article from midas letter clearly shows the intent of the Alpha writer but there seems to be no recourse from SEC. In the future, what chance does an average investor have when there are folks trying to manipulate the stock without repercussions. This is not an easy issue, but any comments would be appreciated as it seems the small cap space is just to vulnerable regardless of how well the companies are doing. Also, do you have a link to check shorts on a stock. Lastly, Constellation is on a roll without much news. Any comments. Thanks again.

Q: GIL-Quite a lot of insider selling especially by the co's ceo since Sep 1. On Oct 6 BNN reported that as a result of either Trans-Pacific Partnership or IMF downgrade of Canada's growth( to 1% from 1.5%) & global growth,the following 4 stocks are victims:-1)CCL.B(was down to $183.49 & closed @ $169.23 on Oct 9) 2)GIL $38.72 & $39.13 on Oct 9) 3)ITP & 4)DH. Your comments on GIL & CCL.B.Appreciate your usual great services & opinions.Thanks
Q: Peter; Just a add on to Peters quesrion re SAP and the TPP- the US congress still has to pass it and we all know how well they get along with a looming election. Publish if you wish. Rod
Q: I see that SPB has a bought deal of common stock to cover the CUS acquisition. When I look at this comp. I see very inconsistent earnings, huge debt., very low ROE and crazy Payout Ratio. Unfortunately I own 2500 shares of CUS and will be getting a co. with a poor balance sheet and poor fundamentals: price taker subject to commodity prices like CUS. I realize it is too early to do the math; but, how can they sustain their dividend and make consistent dependable profits?
Q: Lumber made some excellent gains the past few days, and OSB is also climbing well. Do you think it is time to get into either WEF or NBD for a medium to long term hold? Which would you prefer?
Q: I bought this stock for safety waiting for oil to stabilize so I could get back in. I am even incl. the dividend - so, treading water so to speak. According to my trading site CIBC IE they never seem to publish Q EPS? I know they are expanding in the USA - so, probably incr. costs and no special dividends this year - has been a common practice. Any info you could give me on this co. would be appreciated. Trying to decide whether to keep as a diversifier or sell?

Q: Rajeev asked a question today about CCL.B in which he stated the RSI is now 14. On TD Waterhouse the RSI is currently listed as 55. So the natural question is to ask you what you would use a reliable source for RSI? Thank you.
Q: Hello 5i team. Suspect you've been asked this before, but wasn't able to locate the topic on the Q&A part of your site.
Are you (or any of your subscribers) able to provide a reliable source of information on current payout ratios for Canadian dividend stocks? I've been relying on the Globe Investor 'Watchlist' tool, but sometimes the ratios quoted don't seem right e.g., TransAlta at 27.30% compared to latest edition of Money Magazine at 720%. Lots of dividend-focused websites out there, but the ratios quoted seem all over the map.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Q: I am contemplating buying some common and preferred shares in utility type companies for dividend income. I understand the Liberals if elected may possibly make changes to taxation of capital gains. Have you heard or have thoughts whether they may also target the favourable tax treatment of dividend income as well?
Q: We are both retired but still eligible to contribute 5000$ to a Quebec sponsored workers fund (FTQ) this year and get a refund on our income tax bill at the end of the year.
The funds have to be held 3 years.
Shall we contribute more or just transfer this holding to our Disnat account?
Thanks,
Serge Lacroix

Q: is this a turn around story?
Q: I currently have the following stocks in my wife's income portfolio
AD
ADW.A
BCE
BEP.UN
ENF
ET
WSP
Currently the portfolio is down 1.44% since purchase.
Of that port I have 17% cash to invest in other income producing stocks. Can you suggest which ones you would reccommend I add to this grouping. Or should I buy more of the same.
All originally had equal weightings.
Thanks

Q: Thanks very much for answering my question on covered calls as it relates to out 5i portfolios.
Your answer raised another question. If, using my example of AYA, you are called away on your call option and you no longer have AYA in your port.
Would you then, sell an at the money put to reesetablish the position using November option expiry ( or further out)?
Is this what you would do using this strategy?

Q: Hello Peter, after 20 years of mediocre-to-poor investing results (despite being an incredibly smart guy ;-)), I've concluded I'm just either a horrible, or a very unlucky, stock picker. With only 5 or so years til retirement, and with no RSP or TFSA room available, I've decided to build out a non-registered account with, eventually, around 10 companies. I know large-caps aren't your focus, but I'm looking for 'blue-chip' companies, preferably mostly dividend payers, and I'm prepared to sacrifice significant growth for a 'reasonable' assurance of capital preservation. I've started with ENB and TELUS (choices I trust you'd agree with, though you may want to run and sell these now). Can you please suggest a further five companies for this account to acquire over the next several months? (I was considering Cdn Tire for one? Your thoughts appreciated.) Finally, if you could add two similar choices from the US, that would be great.
Q: Just a comment. This is MNW's response to Elliott.MNW welcomed Elliott's interest & it shared the fund's view on consolidation in the industry. It does not comment on specific M&A discussion. As always,it look forward to creating value for all MNW'shareholders. Note that MNW management was very deligent in attending roadshows & conferences after release of last Q
