Q: I realize past performane does not not indicate future performancebut MRU has outpermormed L and EMP.A on 5, 10 and 20 year metrics. I am looking for a long term consumer staple so at present I am thinking MRU or maybe all 3 makes sense also.

Investment Q&A
Not investment advice or solicitation to buy/sell securities. Do your own due diligence and/or consult an advisor.
Q: Good morning, I am considering adding either IT or AYA do you have a preference looking at risk/reward and potential for future growth and dividend potential.
thanks as always.
thanks as always.
Q: I had held LIF for a few years and sold it earlier this fall to take advantage of a tax loss. Am thinking of buying back in once Tax Loss Selling season starts (late Nov). Materials would represent 10% of my Cdn Equity portfolio broken down between SJ, AGU, AFN and LIF in fairly equal percentages.
In the short term I am buying primarily for the dividend income and understand Capital Appreciation may not take place for a few years till Iron Ore prices improve.
Your thoughts on my plans for the materials section of my portfolio and at current Iron Ore prices is LIFs dividend secure?

Q: This is a Canadian company with operations in the US. Not much info on it yet. Can you supply some numbers and give your opinion on this stock please?
Q: I am interested in the technology of plasma furnaces and its application in waste management. Do you have any insight into this area? PYR is one company I have uncovered. It appears that Westinghouse plasma corp (Alter NRG Corp) has been taken private by a Chinese company. What do you consider the best way to play this technology?
Q: Hello,
I have all this stocks down.
FM -72%,
G -38%,
GSY -22%,
HCG -30%,
QST -84%,
SGY -63%
TOU -52%
The question is do I sell them (for tax purposes) and hope they will be around the same price in 30 days? buy some replacement now? which ones? or let them go because they are out of favor and move to something else? What do you recommend?
The amount to invest is aprox 200K.
Thank you
M

Q: Thoughts on recent earnings release.
Q: Hello I am looking to add to my position on Chemtrade to add a good yield stock with potential for some although I recognize not huge growth. My question is would it be more interest rate sensitive than any of the Brookfield companies, and would one of them be a better choice? Thanks as always, Bill
Q: hello 5i:
in a recent question, asked by Justin, about the new Liberal gov't (hmm, interesting, I know his last name can't start with T), re: infrastructure plays, you advised that WSP, STN, SOX, AND BDT would be some companies that would benefit. I can see that, but wouldn't companies like SCL and BAD benefit even more? After all, they will be doing the groundwork where most of the money is spent and have the lowest valuations due to the hits they've taken.
Just wondering
Paul

Q: Hi team, What are your current thoughts on Norbord as opposed to WEF? Thank you.
Q: Any comments on this R play?
Thanks
Jean
Thanks
Jean
Q: What is your opinion of Canam? Did they exceed quarterly expectations this week?
Q: With the recent news of the Quebec gov't stepping in to save the day (for a while at least), would Bombardier be worth a shot, at the moment? Probably 1 to 2 %. I'm willing to gamble, but also not crazy. Bombardier has always been the-little-engine-that-could-but-never-did, in my mind. And yet ... how I hate those Canadian companies going down, just because they're stubborn and set in their ways. Will there be enough torque behind the gov't's presence to help move the Bomber's needle? Thanks, as ever.
Q: Based on current valuations and diversification, please name 5 " steady eddy" stocks for a RESP with a 10 year hold. I am considering Telus, Loblaw, TD Bank, Boyd Auto Body and K Bro Linen. Thank you.
Q: What is your opinion of the outlook for telus (T) for the next two years?
Q: Your thoughts on earnings and is it still a hold.
Q: HI 5i
Rogers as gone up considerably this year. Is this really deserved or is it just momentum from bluejays. I have considerable gains, bought in around 42 $. I am wondering if I should sell to capture some gains , (lots of losses from energy to balance out tax issues.)
any basic rules of thumb to consider on "when to sell" ?
thanks
Ernie

Q: Interested in your comments on Westshore Terminals (WTE). Seems the projected tonnage is lower because of a drop in thermal coal shipments (one source). They will be compensated for the eliminated shipments. Consequently they reduced the dividend from $1.32 to $1.00 in order to keep the debt at a minimal. Seems like something a well run company would do. Now the market is punishing it. Down 18%. Maybe there’s more curtailment expected?
Q: Your opinion on this company please, especially regarding the sale of their waste mgmt business
Q: Hi,
Does Metro own a chunk of Alimentation or Jean Coutu? If I were to switch from Metro to Loblaw, should I also buy the company (ATD or PJC, depending on which MRU owns) to round out the investment?
Thanks, Heather
