Do you think the regulatory hit that PJC.A took, regarding generic prescription drugs, in Quebec, could be a danger to Loblaws in provinces outside of Quebec?
Do you think its still ok to use the consensus $4.04 earnings per share in 2016, in determining value for Loblaws?
Q: Based on companies in the Growth Portfolio alone, which is your strongest buy today? I just topped up my TFSA and was having some hesitation purchasing EFN, not quite understanding why it continues to slide. Thanks.
Q: The proof's in the pudding. Canadian Business magazine in the most recent issue named CEO Bruce Flatt #94 wealthiest Canadian and director Jack Cockwell #98. These guys are there because they have over 90% of their assets in BAM stock. Other directors and officers including Blidner and Lawson have lots of skin in the game too.
My hunch is Flatt (he's only 50 y.o.) and company will be moving up the ranks in years to come, and my money's with them. The Seeking Alpha article is fluff to put it politely.
I noted your comment to Shyam on Dec 1st regarding Google. In the tech sector would you see Google or our own CSU as being the preferred choice for a long term hold?
Q: Given Alberta Premier Notley's goal to lower coal emissions and usage by 2030 what do u think of Teck's future and price?
If Green companies are going to be favored in the future do you have some names you like for long term holds?
Thanks.
Q: Hello Peter & Co,
I usually consult the coverage summary to verify the ratings; but I'm intrigued by the data you also provide eg (1) start date, meaning when? (2) monthly returns...from when? P&L 2015 or total...profit and loss? Perhaps you could provide an explanatory note.
Thanks,
Antoine
BAM, BIP and BPY possess many of the characteristics that appeal to me. However, I found a couple of Seeking Alpha analyses that raised doubts for me. Inter alia, the analyses say that:
- BAM has an amazingly complex and constantly changing capital structure that makes the company unanalyzable and maybe vulnerable to manipulation
- an undisclosed SEC probe was found
- prior criminal exposure remains unresolved.
- BAM has a pyramidal control structure which US regulators have long frowned upon. This type of structure lets a small group of mostly hidden owners exercise control disproportionate to their investment.
- the business model involves heavy reliance on related party transactions with subsidiaries
- net income comes mostly from accounting entries rather than business activity
- the SEC has publically questioned how BAM uses investment terms and its valuation methodology
Would you invest your money in BAM, BIP or BPY? If so, in your opinion, what is the level of risk in an investment in one of these companies?
Q: Hello 5i, I don't currently have any exposure to the lumber sector. I'm thinking of adding CFX, ADN or WEF. They all seem to be moving again. I do like dividends but don't need them for income at this time. Do you have a favorite in this sector.
Thanks again
Q: Hi Team,
What do you infer from the second quarter Financials and recent subscription numbers. Can this growth rate be sustained?
Also,do you foresee accounting problems for business users?
Q: Good morning Team. According to TD, DRT is in the Materials Sector and AYA (Amaya)is in the Info Tech sector. Do you agree? Also Is DIS (Disney)not Consumer Discretionary? A few Q and A's have thrown me off. Much thanks for all you do. I have rejoined for 2 years...can't get by without you every morning..(along with my morning coffee)..cheers
Q: Hello - Would I be correct in saying that the price for Fortis is presently cheap? When I look back over a 5 year period the P/E ratio appears to be at its lowest level right now. Would you agree?
I have no data that goes back further than that so I don't know what the average P/E would be over a longer time frame.
Q: I think I am a bit underweight in the industrial sector. I currently own CCL (4%) and LNR, MG, STN, BIN (2% each) and KBL (1%) for a total of 13%. Would you suggest to add something in the transportation sector such as CNR, CP or TFI; or perhaps ATA or something else; or perhaps increase one of my existing holdings. Thanks for your thoughts.
Q: I have read lately that Sobey were having difficulty integrating the Western acquisitions putting the share price under pressure. Seems to me that this deal was accretive from day one. Can you comment both from a short term and long term perspective. Thank You
I plan to initiate a position in EFN. Looking at selling one of ALA, PPL or KEY to raise cash and diversify. Which one would you suggest that I sell and why? Or is it a wash between them?
