Q: HI 5i

Rogers as gone up considerably this year. Is this really deserved or is it just momentum from bluejays. I have considerable gains, bought in around 42 $. I am wondering if I should sell to capture some gains , (lots of losses from energy to balance out tax issues.)

any basic rules of thumb to consider on "when to sell" ?

thanks

Ernie

Q: Interested in your comments on Westshore Terminals (WTE). Seems the projected tonnage is lower because of a drop in thermal coal shipments (one source). They will be compensated for the eliminated shipments. Consequently they reduced the dividend from $1.32 to $1.00 in order to keep the debt at a minimal. Seems like something a well run company would do. Now the market is punishing it. Down 18%. Maybe there’s more curtailment expected?

Q: I am thinking about investing in 1/3 BIP.UN, 1/3 BPY.UN and 1/3 BEP.UN but I am starting to wonder why I wouldn't just invest in the parent BAM.A if I was to do this. Obviously the dividend of the parent is lower than the three individual spin offs. Do you think that the overall return of BAM.A is the same as the spinoffs generally and is it just an issue of do you want internal share price growth or do you want more as a dividend? Or is the parent somehow inherently slower growing than the spinoffs for some reason? Thx!

Q: My thinking around the recent shorting and possible near in the future shorts in the next, say month or so, is "Bring them on!"

I say this because if the companies are sound companies, then they will continue to be good holdings going forward. Nothing has changed regarding the actual companies. So these short term share price drops are Excellent opportunities to buy a new stock from one's watch list or to add some more shares to an existing holding. Or nice opportunities for some shorter term trading, such as over a few weeks are being presented.

As far as VRX is concerned over my years I have noticed that on the TSX when a company grows very rapidly and becomes the biggest on the TSX that it shortly afterwards will get knocked down in price significantly. There will be different reasons for each specific stock but it happens. The reason's may be fact based or not fact based, it does not matter. The important part is that it will happen. Think Nortel.

Q: Hi, Can you advise what the estimates are ahead of the Q3 releases this afternoon for MDA and CSU please. I am sure there will be questions regarding your assessemnt of the release tomorrow for follow up. Second, I unfortunately own some IRL (Minera) which is requesting to be delisted from the TSX. Can you advise what typically is the next step for shareholders in these cases outside of using share certificates for kindling?

Thanks,

Eric

Q: please tell everyone that a stock which is down 2% - 3% is not "plunging" or "getting hammered"

that's a media term for "please please please watch/read more here"

I think "plunging" should be reserved for 20%+ drops and "getting hammered" should be reserved for Fridays

Q: I understand that Canadian rules are more lax than those in the US and that is one reason why they are shorting Canadian stocks. Also, that the hedge funds have underperformed in the last number of years,so this is another way for them to boost their bottom line.

Q: Peter and Team:
What are your thoughts on this company? You did comment back when it was "Tweed", but that was a while ago, and prior to a Liberal Majority win. Is it purely a speculative play, or is there some substance behind the smoke?
Also are there other companies in this sector that may stand to benefit from the potential legalisation of marijuana.
Thanks

Q: Do you think all roll up companies will sell off. I currently hold 3% ATD.b should I sell have a little gain. It is down today 2.50%.

Q: Are there any other roll-up companies that you see as potentially being at risk of a short attack? None of the tech consolidators have been hit - could they be next? I bought a fair bit of puts on OTC and GIB.A today just in case.

Could you explain the following concepts and how they are used to interpret what is happening with a stock:

1) Overbought (example DOL)
2) Oversold (example VRX)
3) Short interest (BNS @ 2.5%)

Many thanks

Q: Peter, can you provide any comments on my Consumer stock allocation. Each of the following stocks represent between 4 and 5% of my total portfolio: AYA; ATD.B; BYD.UN; CCL.B; DOL; and L. Please let me know if there are other Consumer stocks I should consider.

Thank you, Stephen

Q: These are both financing companies and I'm trying to choose between them. You seem to like both. While Alaris has a pretty appealing dividend, I'm more interested in what my total return might be after 5 or 10 years, and less in how it's comprised. Which of the two might you suggest? (If one seems lower risk than the other, please factor that into your suggestion.) Thanks as always.
