Q: HI,

I am retired with a RRIF & LIF in addition to
a cash investment account, IDS a a small pension.

I have been putting about 3 years of withdrwals
from my registered accounts in ,ostly short term bond etf's that I have ear marked for this purpose. I think I am about breaking even here
but most ofthe cash has been available.

My Question is:

Would it be viable to move the money set aside
for withdrawals into CASH denominated in US Dollars until the interest rates begin to rise.
These withdrwals(for 3 years) would be about 20% of each account

HOw would I best accomplish this ? is there an ETF out there that just holds US$ ?

It seems to me that the US Dollar will remain strong relative the Canadian dollar for the forseeable future. If the Us Dollar begins to falter the Canadian Dollar will fall with it and gold will start to rise at which point I could consider moving gradually into gold instead of USD ?

Thanks in advance

Leonard

Q: Hi I5Resarch Team,

I have a full position on MX and am currently down by about 25% (it's down by about 8% today so far). Should I bite the bullet and take the loss or should I just sit tight and wait for a turn around? What are the Teams's assessments on this company going forward?

Regards,
Harry

Q: Hi Peter and Team,
I sold my holdings in GM and converted the proceeds from this sale to CDN$s to lock in my gains on exchange rate (I was up 33% on the exchange and 6% on the stock). I would like to put the money (in CDN fund) from the GM sale in automotive related business in TSX. Just wondering if there are companies the Team can recommend considering that I already own Magna and Exco?
Much appreciated.
Harry

Q: Hello 5i,
One of the comments has prompted me to write and say "Thank You!!!" for a very valuable service that I find indispensable. While on occasion I shake my head at some of the questions, I remind myself that there is never a "stupid" question and that the answer is the important part. Not everyone has the same level of knowledge, experience or risk tolerance and this will be reflected in the questions.
So, to keep this short, Thank You!!! You are much appreciated!!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all at 5i and the 5i community.
Cheers,
Mike

Q: Hello Peter
I can't believe the price for some of these stocks, the banks, the pipelines, etc. etc. There are so many of them.
If one has some cash, is it better to wait for better opportunity or buy and collect the dividend and wait.
RRSP and TFSA season will soon be upon us. Is the world coming to an end or is this just a good buying opportunity.
If there was a sale like this at Best Buy or Apple Store or other major department stores, we would be running there in an instant. You understand these thing better than I do. What is your opinion? Would you wait or buy??
Merry Christmas to you all.

Q: Are you sure about your last answer on the amount paid out by this company in dividends last quarter? You may have taken the market cap instead of shares outstanding to calculate the $11 million you quoted.
I checked two sources and one shows 111 million shares outstanding and the other shows 112 million.
The last monthly dividend annoucement was for 0.01854 per share.
This should works out to about $2 million per month X 3 months = $6 million paid out per quarter, not $11 million. Big difference!!
Once the full effect of the new royalty deal comes into play, this $6 million should be fully covered.

Q: Do you think the dividend is sustainable in light of the impairments recently announced? They are collateralized adequately so I would assume so but if they lost in court would they have to cut the dividend? Thanks.

Q: Hi Guys
The only oil stock I have in my RIF is FRU 2% holding, under water. Is there any reason this company won't make it? Debt-CF?
For Income and growth what other company could be added or just buy more FRU.

Q: Hello I have some money I can put in high risk small cap. It would be a very small percentage of total portfolio. I would like to consider one from the oil and gas sector (I hold some PPY so if you have another name that would be great), and a couple of small caps from your growth portfolio if you could recommend same. Thanks as always, Bill

Q: Stock has been declining with the price of oil. I have learned as the dividend yield increases due to a stock price drop, the liklihood of a dividend cut increases and this company has cut its dividend before. Do you foresee a dividend decrease here and would you expect the stock to increase or decrease in such an event. Continue to hold for the long term?

Appreciate your insight.

Q: Good Morning 5i
BNN speaks to convergence of Fed reporting with large amount of options expiring 2 days later. Is this likely to result in a brief downward pressure on stock prices?
Thanks.
