Q: I`m not sure this is even fair question, so I`ll understand if you pass on it. I rode dividend stocks to nice profits a couple of years ago and think the time might be right for a strategy like this again. I would like to get something in the neighbourhood of at least 4% and preferably large enough that the downside is limited if I have to sell. I have $100K U.S. and about $400K Can. More than half of my retirement income comes from stack-market returns. Clearly I would to be diversified and would appreciate a number of suggestions. Thanks for the help

Q: Hi, iam doing quite well with Kinaxis, but the volatility seems a little out of my comfort zone, do u think a switch to New flyer Industries would make sense for less volatility, but similar capital appreciation over the next three to five years, disregarding the dividend, thanks

Q: Hi, My portfolio is starting to recover nicely. A few of my holdings are laggards though, and I'm wondering if this is a good time to top them up, or should I hold off? Are the prospects still good for these companies? If so, why aren't they participating in the recovery?

Q: I have $400k in cash that I plan to use over the next year to build a cottage. How do I invest that? Use term deposits maturing at 3,6,9 and 12 months? The interest rates are so low I'm wondering if there is a better way?

Q: Hi there, I recognize you do not advocate short term trading, but could you please provide some suggestions of stocks that are good day (or week) trading candidates that are high quality stocks that could be held for the longer term in case the short term trade does not work out well. Thanks.

Q: My girlfriend is building herself a small portfolio with low to medium risk stocks, she owns equal parts DOL, CP and ATD.B. She now has the cash to add 2 more stocks in her portfolio. I was suggesting her L or MRU in retail .I was also thinking MTY,BPF.UN or AW.UN in the food sector. What do you suggest ? Thank you !

What is wrong with my portfolio selection and what would you change.

Thank you Andrew

Q: I have some extra cash to deploy and am trying to decide between aw.un (already have metro and atd.b), bep.un (already have snc lavalin), and enb (already have it,ipl and keyera). This is in a registered account and I am looking mainly for a dividend. Am already overloaded with financials.
Also, is bep.un going to be affected by the recent concerns about the brookfield company's accounting?
thanks.

Q: Hi again 51 team!

I currently hold a position in MAL and am considering switching into CAE. What are the main advantages and disadvantages of the future prospects for these two businesses?

What are the executives (not self-serving analyists!) at CAE forecasting for earnings growth and cash flow over the next year?

I see from previous Q&A that 5i has noted that CAE has been profitable every year since 1991. Do you think the market cap of this company reflects their long term financial performance?

Would the CAE track record and future outlook be compelling to add to the 5i balanced portfolio? Why or why not? If not, what does this company have to do to merit inclusion in such a portfolio?

Many thanks for your insights and opinions 5i team !

Q: I am fascinated by the Empire Co. story. I have read some of your earlier replies and would agree that it is a wait and see stock at this time. But some of your criteria for a good stock seem to be in place, i.e. history of increasing dividends, reasonable P/E, Price to Book. And the company is buying back over 5,000,000 share to retire them.

To me, this seems like a true value investment. The stock broke through its very long trend line in mid November. I would wait until the trend line turns back up and re-evaluate at that time but when (not if)this happens, there is a $10 capital gain available. Am I right on this one?
