Q: Hello Peter,
Mr. Seymour Schulich, continues to increase his holdings in Birchcliff Energy. Do you see this as a good sign to enter the name? It has risen quite a bit so am a bit reluctant. Do you still like Gold standard ventures and lastly would you consider Vermilion energy as a conservative play on energy? My concern is that it dropped quite a bit from a few years ago and is recovering very slowly. At the current rate, can you see the stock doubling in atleast 5 years. Thanks

Q: Friaday all these canadian lumber companies' stock prices jumped up.... but there seems to be NO news to support this... Is there some reson for it : seasonality, or insider information, or some trade news that brokers dont give but that some are privileged to. I am interested in these stocks but would like to know 2 things: how to get advance information IF that is what is driving prices up and how would you rank these companies in term of growth potential, safety, and best overall gains for the next 6 months or longer.. also what factors should one assess to fortell the success of gains in these companie

Q: I currently have 15% in the industrial sector, made up of
ATS, BOS, CJT, DRT, XTC, KBR, LNR, WSP
All positions are under 2% with the exceptions of WSP at 3.1% and CJT at 4.5%.
I am thinking it might be wise to trim CJT (perhaps to 2.5% ?)and either replace with one of my other holdings or add a new one (NFI?)

Your thoughts & recommendations would be most appreciated, including any change suggestions for my other equity holdings in this sector.

Q: My RIF equity portfolio has reached my target and I now wish to build cash in high interest paying investments such as GSBD.
There will be little price appreciation however security of principal will be better guarded over the long term (5 years plus)
In this case I will be employing my US holdings and realize the potential ramification of exchange differentials at time of cash out. I presently hold a small amount in XHY (yield now to low)however avoiding government or corporate bonds until the dust settles.
Do you have an opinion on GSBD?
Have any other ideas?
Thanks

Q: Hello Peter,
Yesterday the markets were cautious, today they seem exuberant. The stocks that I want your opinion on, have snapped back from the Friday of the referendum and near their high. Trading is thin that adds to the volatility too.
My portfolio adjustments involve exiting a position in IGM and buying KXS, SH NFI and PKI. Would you buy now or is there a probability of a better opportunity when the market adjusts to the snapback? Is there any of the ones mentioned above where you would be cautious of initiating a new position at today’s prices? And if now is as good a time as any which ones would you start with and which would you wait for a better entry point? I have not been very convincing to myself about replacing IGM with PKI and trusting your professional expertise. Could you tell me why PKI is better? As always, appreciate your viewpoint.
Regards.

Q: Transcontinental recently completed its third acquisition in the packaging area - would you be able to give me a sense of how much of the company this division now accounts for?
The company has been able to fund these acquisitions out of FCF ie no debt: the stock is cheap and provides a 4% dividend.
How would you evaluate the company's prospects for transformation from a declining legacy printing business into this new area.
Thank-you

Q: I noticed 'Gary' had a question about Westport WPT. You gave it a 'short call'. Another interesting company with real stuff happening but no $$ or traction. Another stock for the future that will always remain so! Natural gas engine systems for trucks and buses. Contracts with Ford, Cummins et al. What is your take on this whole endeavour and this company. Thank you
