Q: Hello,
I recall recently reading a reply you had given to someone who asked about a list of "forever" stocks that you had recommended in 2016. The stocks were: BNS, BCE, ENB, T, CSU, FTS, BEP, AQN, OPTEX, PBH. They asked if you would still recommend these and you said "yes" and that there were some additional names you would add.
Could you pls advise what these additional names would be.
Thank you
Margaret

Q: Greetings 5i team:

Can you please suggest 3 stocks on a valuation basis that still have a good balance sheet that you consider have the best potential over the long term. If you can draw them from the mid-cap or larger dividend paying universe so much the better, irrespective of sector. Finally, if you could highlight what you see as the biggest risk for each?

Thank-you,

Q: I use Adjusted Cost Base.ca to track my ACB. I have been with TD Direct Investing since 2012. They do an ok job of tracking ACB of stocks (including DRIP's and commissions) for stocks bought and held on one side or the other (CDN or US) of the account. This tends to go off the rails if I buy CDN stocks that pay USD dividends I journal them on the US side to get dividend/drip. If I move any portion of a given stock back to the CDN side of the account to sell or donate, I find the ACB is not accurate. It's easier to keep track and more accurate with Adjusted Cost Base.ca and it's free. Also, at tax time, TD only records the market value of sell transactions. You're on your own to calculate the book value.

Q: Regardless of NAFTA the US is going to require lots of lumber to rebuild after their disasters. WEF doesn't have any US mills but the other three do - but it does have a 3% Yield. The others have very low to zero yields. How would you rank these with regard to growth and solid financials over the next 1 - 2 yrs?

Q: I hold cash in my accounts. I would like your view on the companies addressed in this question.
Is it a good timing to initiate a position, what are their growth and safety prospects. Could you rate the above in order of priority.
I value as always your opinion.

Q: Hi, Our investment portfolios across family are made up of a combination most companies from Balanced Portfolio, some from Income portfolio and a few others like CM(10%- reasons of affiliation), TD (3.5%), CWB(1.5%), JWEL(1.5%), RPI.un(2.5%). Objective is Mostly growth and income.
I am grateful to 5i research team for recommending companies like CSU,PBH,TOY,SIS, KWH.un and CCL.b and providing timely and consistent updates, resulting in substantial gains. Many of these successful companies would have escaped my attention, if not for your valuable advice.

My question is about a few stocks, listed in subject line, which, during my YTD review, continue to show decline in value (although we have in built gains in all of these). Except SYZ and ENB others are inside RRSP's. Does it make sense to liquidate a part of these holdings and deploy capital elsewhere ? Total value of above is about 15% of my portfolio with SYZ being the largest, 6% and GUD being the smallest,1%.

Thanks again for the excellent service !!

Q: What are your thoughts on the return prospects of BB and RFP? I noticed that Prem Watsa holds significant positions in these two stocks and I am having a hard time understanding the potential of these positions other than a speculative bet, which I don't think he would be making? What am I missing here? Thanks.

Examined my portfolio in relation to recommended Sector weightings. Need to trim back Consumer Discretionary. I like them all; they have done well, except for FRII. I’d like to increase the holdings for Staples, REITs, Util, Energy and Telco. Could you please suggest an equity I might add for each of these five categories? Many thanks.

Q: One of the things you don't get investing in airlines is peace of mind. That being said, I am up substantially on Air Canada over the past few months. I am always watching to see if the steam has run out of its stock rise, however, and it has been trending steadily lower now for the last couple of weeks. Can you tell me if there is any company specific or industry news I've missed which might suggest a problem? Would you recommend this stock today?

Q: Hi. I have a overweight position in BCE which I have a 3% profit plus dividends over the last year. I'm looking to sell half the position to try to get a bit more growth in the next year, while still maintaining a good dividend. Can you suggest a couple names in a sector with a bit more momentum. I already have a lot of financials. Was thinking Chartwell?
